There seem to be a larger number of homosexual main, secondary, and guest characters on this show than on any other I've seen on the air today. Some people say 10% of the population is gay. Some conservatives say it's far less. What would be correct for a show like The 100 to be at a point where they could have gay characters without plot armor? 30% gay characters? 50%? The Post Apocalyptic L-Word?

Some conservatives say it's far less. What would be correct for a show like The 100 to be at a point where they could have gay characters without plot armor? 30% gay characters? 50%? The Post Apocalyptic L-Word? Exactly. Another point is that all LGBT characters are portrayed as good characters. Not a single one of them has been "evil," and in fact every single one of them is chock full of positive qualities, which is irrepresentative of the population at large. And every bad poo poo they do is ultimately justified (by the story) in one form or another. Clarke - Hero and main character, has done bad poo poo but always because she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders and had no choice. Bisexual. Lexa - Badass warrior queen, smart leader, amazing fighter, betrayed Clarke in S2 but only because she wanted to protect her people. Bisexual. Miller - Reliable henchman loyal to Kane, i.e. he's on the "good side". Gay. Bryan - Miller's boyfriend, overall nice dude, even if he's not on the "good side" he also isn't actively evil. Gay. Niylah - Trader who risks her own life to protect Clarke, is obviously "good". Lesbian/Bisexual. On the other hand, Finn massacred a village full of civilians and he was straight. Cage was an evil mountain vampire and he was straight. Pike is a fascist warmonger and he's straight. Ice Queen was blatantly "bad" and she was straight. Etcetera. Basically if a character is an antagonist there's 0% chance that they will be LGBT. Yet, as far as I know, no one raises hell about this unrealistic representation.

I like the "Two Lesbians Enter, One Lesbian Leaves" but it's been made very clear that Clarke doesn't count as a lesbian because she's just part time. Which, okay, yes, I understand the difference between a bisexual woman and a lesbian woman but on the other hand she's had more sex with girls than boys on the show, and I am not actually starting the conversation again what am I doing someone please stop me help help So what about that crazy Jaha, huh?

There's a bunch of Borg drones that have found some kind of happy place when they regenerate, away from the prying eyes of the Queen. The crew of Voyager get themselves assimilated so they can help those drones. At one point the Queen finds that place and send drones in and the voyager crew also goes and there's a big virtual fight. Not quite the same but close enough imho.

I understand the hate for Lexa's death in and of itself but not the hate for the way it was done. Sure it bears some similarity to Tara in Buffy but Lexa's wasn't a meaningless death; it was accidental, yes, but the letting us know about the commander AI is a pretty huge plot point and her death serves a valuable purpose of both moving the plot forward and providing us with insight into grounder history and beliefs. I'm betting the next Commander is that ice nation girl so a) they/we don't have to endure a child actor and b) so they can get Roan back in the picture. How long until the next episode?

Apparently there are still eight or nine episodes to go this season? Have we met the group that is going to get genocided yet? Or will Clarke turn on her own people and demolish all of Arkadia with an apocalyptic killdozer?

The farm station people have been genocided already, as has one of the tribal settlements including their army.

This show is just loving dumb now. Jason and the rest of the writing team so obviously bought into all the fan and media hype around the show being so dark and mature for a network TV show in the aftermath of Season 2. I remember following his and the writing team's twitter last summer and fall and they were all constantly retweeting every article about how the 100 was darker and more deadly than Game of Thrones and poo poo like that. They have completely lost the plot by trying to constantly one-up themselves at being as grimdark edgy as possible and it shows.
|
# ? Apr 1, 2016 03:42 |

I don't think this episode was any more edgy or grimdark than the show has been from from the start. By episode four we had a 10 year old girl kill a guy, let another guy get hung in her place, and then commit suicide.
