An independent film, originally just known as Hardcore, doing something a little different, a movie shot wholly in the first person, slated for an april 8th theatrical release. From the few available trailers, it looks intense, choosing to go with a silent protagonist, and a ton of over-the-top action. The reviews on rotten tomatoes are looking pretty promising, at 94%, can't wait to see it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96EChBYVFhU Official trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JVgQzBG5Ho Official trailer 2 Aishlinn fucked around with this message at 19:38 on Mar 21, 2016 |

There's going to be a special screening in my city on April 2nd which I am very much looking forward to! It is probably important to mention that the idea started with a music video: https://vimeo.com/62092214 Judging by the trailer, I'd say chances are good that they were creative enough to stretch their idea for 90 minutes of runtime. Trailer for this sold me a few weeks ago, I hope it's half as insane as the trailers make it out to be.

I think this looks awesome but I'm curious to see if it's going to cause motion sickness seeing it on the big screen.

I'm at a loss to explain how several of the stunts in that trailer were filmed, so I'll check it out just for that.

For what it's worth I get motion sickness so badly that I can't even play most console FPS's and I was fine with this. It may depend on your specific theatre and where you sit, but you'd probably be fine. This movie is a ton of fun and Sharlto Copley is fantastic in it. Haley Bennett is also pretty decent.

That's gonna be an awesome birthday present! Although the action in the music video was sometimes a bit clunky I think this could be pretty drat great with a bigger budget.

He said him and the director are both very sensitive to motion sickness, so they worried a lot about it, but he says as long as you sit in the middle or, preferably, in the back row, you're good. I got motion sick just watching the trailer in the theater, so I doubt I'll be able to sit through this. Wish I could though.

I was initially very shocked by the good reviews for this because I saw the first trailer when I was in a less "action movie" mood and I thought it looked like gimmicky trash. Saw the more detailed trailer in a theater before 10 Cloverfield Lane it clicked. Holy poo poo this looks loving dope.

The idea of a big budget movie embracing telling a story with the limitations and feel of a first person shooter video game is intriguing. I hope it can walk the very narrow line between genius and stupid, I need more fun action movies in my life.

It's goofy and insane. But it buys into its gimmick 100%. It will have its haters but it's a ton of fun in a big crowd. It played at TIFF's Midnight Madness last fall and was a hoot in that atmosphere. It's really dumb, too, but it's not striving for much beyond being silly fun.

I dug it too. I believe it's trying to say something about how dumb video games are with their often really dumb and sexist plots, but I'm not sure. And yeah if you didn't like that music video, you won't like this one either. It's that, but longer and waaaaay more insane. But it's a nice love letter to Neveldine/Taylor. Mixing Gamer and Crank together in spirit, as well as a few homages to both films. They even put this scene in the movie! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXXqmw6iJCY

Yeah I think what really helps this movie succeed is that it never half-steps, in the way that the Crank movies don't. Seeing it with a MM audience was amazing because that's exactly the crowd you want for this kind of movie. I would say it's not nearly as dumb as I was expecting. It's still an action movie so there's nothing in the way of subtext but what's there is pretty well executed given the format.

What I didn't like about the music video was that the action/stunts sometimes looked pretty fake and cheap, which is understandable of a video. I liked the concept overall, but I think it would really bug me if it went like that for 90 or whatever minutes. Do they improve on that at all?

The stunts get quite insane in this. The car chase is fairly nuts, as is the end. There are a few cheap bad effects but they are far in between.

The music is fun and it introduced me to Russian post-punk and now I can't stop listening to this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpVqVsJuVTY. The movie is a lot of fun and holds up well beyond its gimmick but there are a couple lame gay jokes and the very end was really off-putting to me. Those parts weren't even really very offensive it's just like, it's 2016 y'all I thought we were past this stuff and kinda gets in the way of the fun. Other than that it's some good stuff and Sharlto Copley is amazing in it.
