I work with a lot of aerospace engineer type people and I've only found one guy who gives a poo poo about his keyboard (he has a model m).

I've tried all kinds of angles to see what might hook them but these people do not give any shits about dye sublimation or switch actuation.

heh, i'd gladly take a free model f, especially with the gently caress off huge + on the numpad

but yeah it's not exactly something i'd use, model m is def the much more pro choice

are these the old timey alps switches? are you just using an ADB-USB adapter and if so does it work pretty well?

i have some old apple mech KBs but the ADB thing has sorta always turned me off from using them on a computer without the port.

i have one, and i believe they use salmon Alps? i havent pulled a keycap to confirm. they are tactile but not clicky, iirc. they feel much nicer than my extended keyboards ii, though. i have it plugged into my G4 via an ADB-USB adapter, and it works ok. either i keep loving up, or it drops keypresses occasionally. maybe ill arduino up a different adapter and see if that changes it. i dont use that computer very often, so its not very high on my priorities

the one I have is a new-label made-in-Japan so I'm pretty sure it's ALPS, there's also an SMK variant though

the Griffin iMate is $30 or on eBay and works well in my experience, no drivers necessary. if you have one that's dropping key presses you should open it and replace the battery (!) which can make it flaky when run down

the battery is really only used to make the power key actually start up an old system (original iMac or B&W G3) anyway

wait there's a battery in there? that's why it drops keypresses? I thought it was just flaky

yeah mine is a late production one too, i think. its at my parents' house, ill take a look next time im there.

the adapter i have is not an imate, it is something older than that i think, but ill look to see if it has a battery. that would explain the "am i that bad at keyboard all of a sudden???" moments

oh, I have no idea if the other couple common adapters are any good, or how they're put together, I've only ever used the iMate

it's originally a financial keyboard - the previous owner had the halves swapped around compared to that image.

i like it because it gives me the ergonomic benefits of a 60% board without giving up the command block and numpad.

i don't even have the touchpad plugged in 'cause my motherboard only has one ps/2 port

i first saw it when i was at Desert Bus for Hope one year and one of the tech leads had one (with no identifying marks beyond an FCC ID also used on a dozen other keyboards), spent a few weeks sleuthing my way to the brand name, bought one on TaoBao where the seller eventually flaked and refused to actually send it, then had to scour ebay until one eventually showed up that would only ship to the US, so I had a US-based friend buy it for me and then send it onto me

It's from DSI keyboards and has been sold under the names "SMK-101" and "DCK-101". The ones branded with DCK are newer. DSI themselves haven't sold them for a long-rear end while. I wrote and asked them if they had any spares lying around they could sell me, and they said if I ordered a batch of at least 500 we could talk, otherwise i could feel free to go gently caress myself (paraphrased)

i got my replacement for the one with the hosed up led(s) and it's fine now. their shipping is hella slow though cause it's ground so the whole process took like 12 days.

i saw that massdrop had it as a drop but even with clears it's not much cheaper than just buying straight from wasd so i don't feel too bad. it's a good kb though. i need some different keycaps but it sucks that for the most part they can't be bothered to make ones for led backlighting.

something like the dolch but with backlighting would be cool and good.
