I watched Ft Lauderdale - Miami on BeIN, pretty good game with some late drama. I think Miami looked good for their first ever game, and I like their kits.

hounds played really well but the rhinos scored early and their stupid ginger goalkeeper had himself a game. could not have asked for worse weather, 40 and pissing rain. solid crowd showed up despite that. e: also, can we go to these games and actually support the clubs, rather than starting pissing contests with rival supporters groups? the "steel army" and the rhinos traveling support just chanted about each other all night, at one point even criticizing one group's drum playing. no one cares. it's childish and cringeworthy and encapsulates everything people hate about american soccer. keep that poo poo on reddit. oh and the rhinos fans had their shirts off by the end of the game. cool, guys. you're cool. i see your pasty white skin and i feel fear. wicka fucked around with this message at 15:18 on Apr 3, 2016 |

The 103rd Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 1st Round draw was today! Indy Eleven NPSL (amateur, mostly u23) drew Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC (PDL). The winner of that game plays FC Cincinnati (USL) in round 2, and the winner of that game will almost certainly play the actual Indy Eleven in Indianapolis in round 3.

10,156 at Miami FC's home opener, so good for them. That's about 10 times what I was expecting, given Miami's past performance in pro soccer attendance. If they can keep this up it will be impressive, but sadly probably doomed if, as seems likely now, Beckham gets his stadium built.

Bad experience with parking, bad experience with getting visiting supporters group (Ralph's Mob) into the stadium, no security for visiting supporters group, complete lack of any kind of front office support or coordination with visiting supporters groups, etc. They don't just sound disorganized they sound like they aren't even aware of the potential problems they are facing yet. quote:http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mls/article70993627.html quote:http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/10/miami-fc-nasl-alessandro-nesta quote:http://www.gamingintelligence.com/legal/37185-sportradar-signs-football-monitoring-deal-with-united-soccer-league quote:http://screamer.deadspin.com/minor-league-soccer-team-has-minor-league-media-operati-1769965114 quote:http://www.plantcityobserver.com/article/cheyne-roberts-gets-rowdy

It looks like FC Cincinnati might of finally figured out Soccer in Cincy. Watching the SilverBacks, and the Kings, and the Saints, it seems like they were able to build something that the people finally want. I think the first game we would of drew in more fans, but holy poo poo it was cold! The second game is hopefully something more and more people can get behind. They are still working out how many concession boths to open, and a biergarden but so far so good! There are a couple Supporter Groups that are striving and really trying to get more people engaged with the team. They are showing the games on local tv but the Camera crew really needs to work on their skills, it is like they are fully zoomed out.

Saint Louis FC is continuing their proud tradition of doing fairly well away (yesterday they went to Sacto and won 1-0, with our MLS-loanee goalkeeper apparently putting in a massive shift) and yet playing like utter crap at home (I went to the home opener last weekend with a hockey buddy of mine who has season tickets, only to see a dreadful 0-0 draw with Tulsa). But they're still getting really good crowds (I've been told they have 3,000 season subscriptions in a 5,500 seat stadium, and that sellouts will likely be the norm this year), have absurd amounts of corporate sponsorships, and honestly I'd prefer staying where we are right now to being part of

Note sure what is going on with the Strikers; either their owners have no clue what they are doing, or have stopped spending money marketing the team and selling tickets, or something. Very sad. There's nothing wrong with that area or that brand; it has drawn well in the past. Lockhart is probably the only stadium in the USA still being used for pro soccer that predates the MLS era.

A group of us Indy Eleven fans drove the 24 hour round trip out to Oklahoma City for the game vs Rayo. We won, we dropped smoke, we got on TV, and it was amazing. Rayo are a good team, but their stadium is soooo far outside the city. On the bright side, the threats of arresting people for tailgating and only being able to sell 3.2% beer weren't carried out. Support your local club, y'all!

It was pouring rain this weekend but Cincinnati still managed 11,318 to come out and cheer! The club is averaging 15,491 fans per game right now. I am not sure if they will be able to sustain it now that UC is done for the summer, so the student section is going to dwindle massively, but hopefully with nice weather people will still come out! The games are fun, our goalie is awesome, but our defense is not really that good.

Had a great trip with Lane United's (of the USL PDL) supporters group the Red Aces up to face the Portland Timbers U-23's yesterday. While there weren't a ton of us, we still had a great time and raised a good ruckus. Basically no security at the pitch so we openly drank and smoked throughout the match. It was a bit of a cagey affair, but ended 1-0 with Lane United earning their first road win in their short history. This was especially great because the Oregon State coach, who usually has his players play with us during the summer, decided he would prefer them to play with a big name club like the Timbers. Our leading scorer from last season (Timmy Mueller) played up top all 90 minutes for the timbers and it's fair to say he had a poor game, probably due to the heckling he had to put up with.

Edit to add: speculation is that they'll just string along a series of 4 or 5 year leases since this does not require voter approval. Not sure why Edwards would want to commit to spending $70 million in Al Lang expansion without a long term lease; on the other hand who else is St. Pete going to rent Al Lang to? Will have to wait until Edwards announces how/if/when he finances the expansion; would think he would want to bring on additional investors too and in spite of denials he has to be thinking about MLS. So the owner of FC Cincinnati has decided to try and break our previous USL attendance record this weekend.... He is trying to get to 25K Saturday... I know Monday they surprised 10K tickets which is good, but I don't know if it is enough yet... The weather originally looked like rain, which would stop people from coming out, but it now looks like rain in the morning and then clear for the game. They are really pushing marketing with the Bengals for this weekends game to get some new faces in the seats. I hope we can break the record, but with UC being out for the summer and the coldish weather and slight chance of rain I don't see it happening: Jeff Berding tweet at Chad Johnson to try and get him to come out but he was going to be in Seattle already suppoesdly, I am actually surprised he didn't take him up on the offer as much as he loves soccer. fyallm fucked around with this message at 14:33 on May 12, 2016 |
