Doctor Cave posted:If a band was part of some trend (chillwave for example) that's now passed, any new releases are usually ignored in favour of the new hotness. A lot of chillwave artists have had to adapt or go into entirely new directions. Neon Indian for example don't really sound like anything from their first releases.

John Dieterich, criminally underrated guitarist from Deerhoof, and Jeremy Barnes, accordionist and noisemaker from Neutral Milk Hotel, are collaborating on an album that sounds pretty neat so far. This track gives me Battles vibes, but I like it a lot more than anything Battles has relesed since Mirrored: https://soundcloud.com/kinsmanandmeng/dieterich-barnes-what This one has a much more Deerhoofy vibe: https://soundcloud.com/kinsmanandmeng/dieterich-barnes-out-and-about

New Charles Bradley album streaming on NPR music! If you don't like Charles Bradley, gently caress you - you are a real Piece of poo poo! So far I don't like it quite as much as No Time For Dreaming, but it's more imaginative than Victim of Love. http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=471312866&m=471326893 If you don't know who Charles Bradley is, this video is like years of Charles Bradley Education condensed into four minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgnQYvzRDiQ

no idea where to post this, but SBTRKT has a new "project" (his word) out. it's a short 25-minute album. I like it more than his last one just by virtue of it not being nearly so overstuffed, and the song with DRAM on it is super good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05edLSr0KDE like a lot of SBTRKT's recent work, a lot of the stuff on this almost seems like potential club hits that were purposely self-sabotaged - lots of good beats that are only allowed to ride for 40 seconds, hooks that only show up once, etc. I still love that first album and a lot of the stuff on the second ("The Light" is one of the most underrated songs ever imo) so I hope he comes out with another full-length soon

My friend just hooked me up with free tickets to see Cage the Elephant/Silversun Pickups/Foals/Bear Hands on Wednesday night. I'm planning on skipping Bear Hands, catching Foals and SSPU, and bouncing before Cage (I've seen them twice already, didn't dig either of their last two records and have work early Thursday morning). Can anyone vouch for Bear Hands? I'm willing to go early and check out an opener.

The best part is when I was still a little baby show-goer in 2009, I saw a tour where Cage opened for Silversun, with An Horse opening (they were assholes when I bought their CD, so I'm kinda spitefully happy they never broke it big). Matt Shultz pretended to have a seizure and shook sweat all over me in the front row, then Brian Aubert shook my hand during the guitar solo on Lazy Eye and it didn't affect the song because they had so much reverb in the mix. The setlist was right after Swoon, so the setlist was absolutely killer: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/silversun-pickups/2009/lupos-heartbreak-hotel-providence-ri-33d46ca1.html Somehow I weigh less at 25 than I did at 18, so the SSPU shirt I got that night still fits. I wear it to the gym sometimes. This show is going to be kind of a cool complement to that one. CRINDY fucked around with this message at 00:24 on Mar 29, 2016 |

I saw them somewhere outside of Albany. Very similar experience with Matt sweating and shaking all over the audience. Surprised An Horse were jerks to you, they were super nice when I saw them again a year later.

My Morning Jacket is reissuing a remastered It Still Moves. I blew a little load in my pants when I read that. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/04/arts/music/my-morning-jacket-it-still-moves-reissue.html quote:“It Still Moves” is really the only record in our catalog that I’ve always felt I wanted to remix. Part of the fun of that record was that we recorded it all to tape, and it was all super-duper organic. But when we mixed it originally, we didn’t have enough time. We thought we were happy with it, but there are certain things that bothered me when I would listen to it, like, “Oh my God, you can’t hear that guitar solo.”

Saw M83 last night on the first date of their new tour. They played a bunch of new material and it all sounded great. They didn't play any songs I really wanted to hear from BTDHU like Moonchild, Teen Angst, A Guitar And A Heart, etc., so that was a bummer, but they played some other favorites of mine like We Own The Sky and a whole bunch of good stuff from HUWD. Here's the setlist: Reunion Do It, Try It (Live debut) Steve McQueen We Own the Sky Bibi the Dog (Live debut) Solitude (Live debut) Couleurs Walkway Blues (Live debut) OK Pal Oblivion Road Blaster (Live debut) Wait Go! (Live debut) Midnight City Echoes of Mine Outro Encore: Intro For the Kids (Live debut) Laser Gun (Live debut) Also the new keyboardist is insanely talented. Like holy gently caress can she sing. She's also gorgeous and smiled a lot throughout the whole show, which made her electrifying to watch. I got to shake Anthony's hand during Midnight City since I was in the front row, too, which ruled

Not digging this new M83 album at all I feel like they committed so hard to recreating that schmaltzy 80's kitsch sound that they were too successful and made a boring album that's indistinguishable from actual mediocre kitschy 80's music. All it made me want to do was listen to Neon Indian's last album again.

I'm planning on seeing them on a music festival in August (along with stuff like Chvrches, the Last Shadow Puppets and Hercules & Love Affair) and man that setlist is making me excited. It's basically all my favorites + the best songs from the new album (For The Kids, Solitude, Laser Gun, Road Blaster). I really like the new album. It's a bit different but in a way that works for me.

I'm pretty sure Parquet Courts are the closest thing I have to a favorite band at the moment. As crazy as I am about the new album, everyone I've played it for seems pretty meh on it. Maybe they're like the Miracle Whip of the indie-rock set or something.

I wanted to love the new M83 record, but it's too self-indulgent. At some points I was loving the 80s throwback theme, but too much of the record fails to justify its existence. Goddamn, though, some of those high points are high as HELL. "Go!" is a loving jam, making it at least the third song called "Go!" that I love. I warmed up to "Do It, Try It" and "Solitude" pretty quickly. "Lazer Gun" and "Moon Crystal" are fun as hell. Overall it's disappointing, but I think it came out a lot better than if Anthony and co. tried to make a carbon copy of "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming." At the very least, I think the door's wide open for whatever their next tone shift will be, there's a lot of creativity on this record. I'm going to give Parquet Courts another try now, but other than "Uncast Shadow" they've never caught my ear.
