I think he's probably more confused as how to pronounce the "X" which is uncommon to have as the first letter of a word. I'm guessing (having not heard it pronounced before) Xamarin would be pronounced zam-a-rin since its predecesor company, Ximian, was pronounced zim-ee-un. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ximian http://www.linuxtoday.com/developer/2001011100204NWGN

Thank god, I figured when they bought Xamarin it would be announced at BUILD. Freaking phenomenal move MS, way to make C# relevant in mobile, unfortunately the news was two weeks too late (or two days considering the start date) for me and now I'm in a WPF job instead of holding out for Xamarin.

Is there an app that lets you call landlines and mobile numbers for free over the internet? I thought thats what whatsapp did but it only lets you call other whatsapp users.

There are several services that allow internet calling to regular numbers, but none that do it for free that I'm aware of. I'm not sure I would trust a free service either, they would need to monetize the service somehow and that would probably involve agreeing to privacy violations.

My 520 Dual Sim WP 10.0.10586.107 refuses to let me move or fresh-install apps onto SD, and I'm getting some really buggy photo storage which, also on SD, sporadically disappear or become unreadable. Card is a Sandisck Ultra 64GB 10 speed. Is this a bug with this build on this phone? Obviously I'm for ever low on space on this bastard, what are the least painful steps to debug and get the card running normally? Also I'm getting prods to install a Fast Ring update for 10.0.14295.1000. I would have installed it already had I had more space but the time gave me opportunity to read up on this new build. Looking like a bit of a disaster. http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10-mobile/418870-2.htm http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10-mobile-insider-preview/417853-9.htm#post3452822 Any goon reports?

I've been running it on my 640 ever since it came out. I had a few issues with performance at first but a reboot fixed everything. Also, I had to copy the apps that were installed on my SDcard back to internal memory before some of them would run. The only issue I'm having at the moment is that Maps navigation cuts out the first bit of spoken instructions when I'm using my bluetooth headset. I don't have a lot of apps installed though, and my use pattern is fairly basic.

I just got that to finally upgrade this morning (it kept failing and saying I needed more space even with enough free..?). So far seems the same as anything else, just minus all the poo poo I had to uninstall to make enough space on the internal storage. A bunch of apps had "Move" greyed out to move them, others didn't but then churned for a couple of minutes and said the author didn't allow that? Whatever.

DarkMalfunction posted:this sounds like a story worth elaborating on His son was a freshman at my university, so Ballmer had a lunch with the interns from there. He talked about how Bill Gates convinced him to join him at MS, and him having to convince his dad that he strongly believed in what Bill was doing and it was worth leaving business school to join him, and that it was worth passing on a sure and steady job at Ford (or some other big detroit car company). It was a lot of talk about breaking out of the expected role, and doing something interesting that you are passionate about. Before that, and even afterwards to some extent, I was strongly planning to work at MS fulltime after my internship because it was a good steady job and it would have been easy work in the particular team I was on, but I had zero passion for what I was doing. Instead I turned it down, and went to work in the games industry and ended up with my dream job

PlaneGuy posted:People app made the phone, man. All my facebook and tweets in one place, bypassing the ads and curation algorithms? Yes, please! This basically. I bought into windows phone because I liked the philosophy behind it, I liked the UI, and I liked the way it presented information to me. Most of all I loved the fusion of iOS ideals - a curated garden free of malware, polished and consistent UI free of third party fuckery and the promise of regular updates - with the Android ideals of greater hardware flexibility. Then Microsoft completely abandoned its UI philosophy, stopped offering polish and consistency and released a perpetually unfinished OS. At the same time, Apple eased up on hardware, and started offering reasonably sized phones, so I bought an iphone and I haven't looked back.

I got my Lumia 650 and I'm having a weird issue with the Groove store and don't know if this is a phone specific issue but figured I would ask. When I download music, it doesn't seem to continue to download when my phone goes to sleep 20 seconds later or whatever, I have to constantly keep it on. I checked for an option in my settings and the store settings to download while the screen isn't active but didn't see anything. Am I missing something or is this some bullshit store restriction to passively keep people from just mass downloading things? Going to be rough getting my 20k song collection back I lost from Zune if that's the case. When I went to buy the Groove subscription I went with the year sub to save some money...and then they charged me 3 times. After 30 minutes or so with support I think I got it situated, but now it says I still have a music pass even though it appears all the charges were refunded... so I might have accidentally got a year pass for free. Other than that, the phone is great so far.

The current Insider build on my 640 is running like absolute trash. Awful Reader isn't even loading, everything else is crashing frequently and Edge keeps reloading pages (even lightweight ones like news articles), usually before crashing. App resuming is almost non-existent.
