There's another show like this but I forgot the name now - it's about bachelors young and old living in Polish villages looking for wives. It has more of a documentary format though where you only see them talking about their lives and going on dates without some big reality show splendor. I'll tell you this - it's INCREDIBLE, it's like The Room: Polish documentary edition and just what those people talk about, the wording they use, their stories - it's some insane poo poo. Every episode could easily have a companion comedy show filled with just quotes from it. It's one of my greatest late night discoveries.

Please try to grok the name out. I love poo poo like that.

I think the cringiest licensed programming was that dating show some years ago where the big twist was that the girl all participants try to seduce is secretly trans.

There's Something About Miriam? That wasn't licensed, just a british show that aired on TVN. That would be a colossal shitstorm if someone actually attempted it in Poland.

It's not just misery, the outcomes are very varied. poo poo, I don't want to sell this show to you because I'm not going to defend it and I'm not a big fan or anything. I just discovered it one night while hanging out with one of my siblings and it's just an absurd but actually pretty authentic experience.

My friend was a boom operator in "Trudne sprawy" once. He recalls that filming a single line of dialogue required up to twenty takes, since the "actors" couldn't even speak clearly and remember two sentences of the script.

My singular experience is that the director thought the script was total poo poo (justifiably so), rewrote most of the lines on the spot, added or removed scenes, and in the end told us to get in the role and improvise. Every member of the crew hated being there.

This could be connected with the recent indictment of a bunch of Israeli millionaires (and a billionaire) who, together with a Romanian prince and some politicians, were trying to illegally acquire for free in Romania a big piece of land worth hundreds of millions of euros

They're just not happy stealing land from Palestinians. What was significant about that land they tried to get? Just prime real estate?

I know that show is about farmers looking for wives but the name does have rather great connotations in Czech; the verb transliterates into "to gently caress".

I heard that "samolot" and "samochod" are hilarious to Czech people. Also as a Polish tourist you shouldn't tell people that you're looking for something ("szukac").

Although Czech language as a whole sounds like weird baby talk to Polish people so it goes beyond vocabulary in this case.

Estonia's up coming GameDev Days will focus on the indie game developer.

http://estonianworld.com/technology/tallinn-to-host-a-game-development-conference/

quote:

A game development conference, GameDev Days, will take place on 8-9 April in Tallinn.

The annual event is organised and hosted by Creative Mobile, an Estonian mobile game developer and publisher. The conference is supported by IGDA Estonia, local branch of a non-profit organisation that supports game developers around the world, in cooperation with the Tallinn-based gaming accelerator, GameFounders.

The format of GameDev Days 2016 changes slightly from previous conferences – this time, the main focus will be on “indie heroes”, covering the release process of successful indie projects. A significant amount of time will be devoted to game design, graphic design and community management.

At the conference, there will be two intense days dedicated to the discussion of a wide variety of topics, related to the nuances of game development, including the game design, business development, technologies of development, challenges for indie developers, as well as the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

More than twenty speakers will attend, including representatives from tech giants Google and Microsoft, the organisers said.

Yeah I noticed the first things out of wikileaks when this panama poo poo went down made them sound really butt hurt that someone did a major "leak" without involving them. "Leaks were our idea! Original character do not steal!!!". It's really petty and made them out to be jealous little partisans. If wikileaks believes what they market them selves as they should be celebrating this whole thing. It's like a famine charity getting all mad that some other charity fed a bunch of people. Fines for traffic offenses in Estonia now and after planned changes to fines (light red -> red). First four are for violating speed limits up to a certain speed.
Followed by 1) unfastened seat belt 2) dangerous situation caused by ignoring a pedestrian at a crossing 3) unreadable license plate.
And drunk driving ranging from slight to moderate drunkenness. The ones in blue are supposedly what they have in Germany right now. Three strikes for drunk driving.

And at the bottom of the picture is Spain with a maximum fine of 500 euros for traffic offenses, which is halved if paid in 15 days.

The justice commission is going to decide on this today. They have to be outright mad for this to go forward. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did though.

Traffic safety. Probably to make us look better in the EU and to get closer to the Nordic countries.

But I wouldn't disregard the revenue part too. Child support money paid out every month is now increasing by 5 euros every year until 2019 while social tax was reduced by 1%, so that money has to come from somewhere, amirite.

edit: as a reminder, average net income is still 855€ :D

Gantolandon
Aug 19, 2012

It's quite similar in Poland - every several years the politicians look at traffic accidents statistics and decides we are not tough on crime (well, violations) enough. Fines were massively raised last year and I don't think anything changed - everyone's still speeding as they used to. Sometimes initiatives to cull the number of accidents backfire spectacularly - when traffic cameras were introduced, the local governments started to plop them everywhere they could, including completely safe roads that should probably get their speed limits raised. When the drivers learned where they are and you could download an app for your phone that would warn you about a camera nearby, they started concealing them, hiding them in dumpsters and deploying mobile traffic cameras just to keep the gravy train coming. Nothing was done about it until it turned out that the Traffic Ministry was disappointed with the amount of fine money they got, expecting much more. Drivers got quite pissed and the government reduced the traffic camera presence and banned concealing them.

I've read it only on one news server, but Poland apparently wants back 368 hectares of territory they lost to Czech Rep during border adjustment in 1958. Is that a joke or is Poland really that butthurt about it?

The server it's on isn't very reliable and there's no date in the article, so that feels kinda weird; on the other hand, the current Polish government seems capable of just about anything.
