How is $16,000 for a used Sonic rental? I realize you're in the Canadian market but that's what I'd pay for a new one here in the U.S.

Yeah, I figured, still, I feel like dealers will be greedy no matter where and probably asking way too much. Anyway the cool thing is Consumer Reports rates it average reliability and it has surprisingly good safety test scores from IIHS including the small-offset test. My experience with one as a rental a few years ago was it was much better than I expected.

Even so, try not to buy a former rental car. Yeah, it's low milage so potential damage is limited, but rental cars take more abuse than just neglect.

I just looked it up and a 2017 LT Automatic starts at $17,545 or $18,145, depending on whether you're getting a sedan or hatchback. Is this guy not car saavy and bad with money? Doesn't look like the Canadian equivalent is that much more.

I drive a 13 and 14 Sonic hatchback sometimes for work. My only real complaint is that it's slow to respond to acceleration. Feels like the car can't decide what to do when I hit the gas. I might consider one for a DD if it were a manual (and that cleared up this issue).

Honestly, they probably don't either, though they have gotten a lot fatter and larger. Somewhere in the 3000lb tange is probably where it starts to matter in anon-performance car. Rear drums are pretty decent unless you're in a situation where you're really worried about fade as they last for loving ever.

Mom's Avalon is coming up on 150k, and the dealer had originally talked her into doing the timing belt at 70k (). It's pissing oil pretty bad from the cam seals + front crank seal. Pretty drat sure they didn't change any seals; they definitely didn't replace the spark plugs that they charged her for, and she got it back pouring oil from the valve covers and with a squealing belt (the belt took 3 trips to fix, and they refused to fix the valve cover leaks; gently caress the dealer). I'm assuming oil hitting the timing belt is A Bad Thing, right? Between the oil leaks and the overall (lack of) quality of work that was done by the dealer, I'd rather play it safe and get it done a bit early. Her birthday is coming up (next month), and she wants to drive the S.S. Leaks A Lot until the wheels fall off (and if she decides not to, I'll probably wind up buying it from her, so either way, it's something that'll be taken care of properly). I was thinking of dropping the cash to get the timing belt/water pump/seals done. I just have no idea what that job costs these days, especially on a V6 that requires removing the upper intake manifold. So yeah, if anyone has a ballpark number for what it'll cost to do a timing belt service on a 1MZ-FE.. or at least knows what book labor for the job is. It's going to a shop for this, I don't trust myself to do a timing belt on this thing.

I think my car has gremlins. First the wipers started acting up, when I try to turn them off they just keep going to 12-15 wipes and then stop randomly. And this morning, the check engine light was on and the throttle response is all to poo poo. I'm gonna go pick up an ODB bluetooth adapter after work and see what's up. Ah, the joys of French car ownership I think I know what's up with the wipers, apparently the relay they used is known to have bad solder joints that fail after some years of normal vibration from driving around. I can fix that myself quite easily, unfortunately the relay is buried in the dash somewhere. I'm much more worried about the check engine light. E: Apparently it's completely impossible to find a diagram of the engine compartment fusebox on a Peugeot 406. I just want to know what each relay in the box actually does, but nooooooo, that's classified information for whatever loving reason KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 10:57 on Apr 8, 2016 |

Whilst you are correct (and I should also add that warning signs need to be posted at the entrances), I can say with certainty that 95% of clubs either do not know this, or don't care! Most professional strobes can run continuously at up to 25Hz on a 50Hz supply, and they often do, for extended periods. I was once told "use the strobes in moderation. No more than 55 seconds of strobe in every m'nute!"

Even in rust free States such as CA it still doesn't work. A car will lose value that's all there is to it. Obviously there are certain exceptions such as real collectors vehicles and not that hella sweet Harley Davidson edition Ford your uncle just bought to show he's a rebel. Cars are like computer components, you buy them because they're a good deal at the moment and it's something you really want. However, you know full well the moment you use it, it will decrease in value.

Buying cars you like with half an eye on the fact they might hold their value well is perfectly sensible.
