Mega man Battle Network, an isometric, grid based, card battle, RPG...I don't actually know what this game is, but the last one of those came out in 2006... So between 5 and 10 years depending on how you count it. To be fair to those fans A) tossing Mega Man family characters into a fighting game is not quite the same as a new iteration on the classic Mega man gameplay, B) they had just cancelled the recently announced Mega Man crossover game C) this was right around the 25th anniversary of MM, which Capcom didn't really do anything for.
