People seem to be moaning about the most basic of things. No keys one run? Work around it. Few guns? Try again, get as many unlocks as you can. Who cares? It's a roguelike, and it is literally built around you playing again and again. BoI is arguably easier when you haven't unlocked much stuff, because there's a lot of really good(albeit kinda dull) items in the initial item pool.

I don't think you've been paying attention if all you've gotten out of this discussion is "some people are bad and crying about it". You may notice that nowhere in my complaint about the knights am I bitching about losing, in fact my whole point is that the enemy is very easy and yet takes a long time to kill, which is annoying. I am not talking about the difficulty of the game(that is, in fact, one of my favorite parts! I'm hugely fond of the bullet hell influences(from the more interesting attack patterns than isaac to the blanks, which are a very bullet hell mechanic), what I'm criticizing is the pace of the game. It's a good game that for some reason scales enemy HP per level, gives some easy enemies deep HP pools, and heavily incentivizes you to use primarily your boring slow weapon for the first 60% or so of the game on top of making good guns kind of a pain to get a lot of the time because they're in chests locked by keys which you often don't have.

Nah, BoI is a lot more forgiving, and very rarely is there a run hosed from the start. The fact that there are so few to nonexistent or reliable ways to work around a hosed up start is a problem folks have with gungeon. There is no mitigating zero keys or ammo since there is nothing reliable in the game. Shops, secret rooms, and room drops are not guaranteed in any capacity, nor are their contents. It would be completely different if you could rely on the shop having an ammo and a key, for example. On top of that I feel like some of the others about how such a seemingly fast paced game has so many damnably spongey and un- threatening critters.

You can do it. I believe in you. Use the floor 4 elevator to work on getting the flawless boss kill mastery item (for the floor 5 elevator). You'll get good enough at floor 4 and its bosses in the process to make the 6 heart objective doable. Buying the many +hp items from the breach will also help.

If we're making comparisons to Issac, for as much things this game does better, I have yet to have a run where I get an awesome item that snowballs me into victory. Every run I feel like I'm doing well the game just throws me a curve ball and I go from riding high to like half a heart in two rooms. I mean, I'm just bad at video games but I got pretty deep into Issac completion in both versions so it's flustering to feel like I'm getting nowhere in this game.

I hate the ammoconda. That boss just messes me up. It feels like a total clusterfuck and I just can't figure out how to deal. I pretty much have the gorgun down, and I'm okay with the beholdster if I have a good gun.

In general, gently caress all these bosses that spam adds. My memory may be failing me but this game is feeling totally worse that Isaac in that regard.

Yeah the eggs don't flash or do anything to indicate that you're damaging them which will hopefully get fixed, but yes, you can kill them. Depending on the loadout I'm working with sometimes I don't bother and just focus on damaging the boss but if you don't have anything with good damage output to work with it seems worthwhile to focus on taking them out first

There are some seriously strong items that can carry you pretty far by themselves, but most of them are hidden behind challenges or in the stores, so you won't have access to them from the get go.

Also, I don't know what they changed with the patch, but I haven't run into a single store without a key on sale so far.

One of my runs this morning had the extra ammo on all weapons and made it so my bullets were ghost bullets. Made the whole "clear poo poo with your basic pistol and save your cool gun for the big boss fights" passable.

Yes, it does. I think it's a good thing, Isaac's devil deal chance ended up not really being a meaningful skill check and instead a "do you have soul hearts" check because those didn't count as damage.

I AM BRAWW posted:

Yes, of course. It cycles through several different patterns like every other boss. It's pretty tough but I don't think anything in that fight is stupid besides the dark part, and not because it's unfair but rather because it makes you squint at the screen.

I'd prefer something like that one early touhou boss that uses darkness-it doesn't make the whole screen dark, just most of it. Everything dark is totally black and unseeable(so you don't have to squint and make your eyes uncomfortable to make out bullets), and a small circular area around the player is not dark. So you have less time to see bullets coming and must react faster/move carefully.

I feel like a lot of folks having problems with Ammoconda and, be logical extension, I assume the game in general need to drill into themselves the necessity focus on their character not enemies. Better to shoot by feel or even blind. It's a bullet hell first and foremost which means focusing on your character and using wide angle vision to kind of feel the bullets coming and weave. Ammoconda is not nearly one of the harder bosses in the game unless your main source of focus isn't on your player character.

I'd say this is required in Isaac as well but many players don't just automatically run through games doing Hush and Chest/Dark Room through dodge skill but rather get a "good" run every once in a while with tear synergies and feel like they're getting better when really they're just reinforcing bad habits and relying on RNG.

I'm looking forward to unlocking more interesting things but in the meantime I'm grateful this gives players that autopilot through Chest runs when they have 20 or 30 mins to spare something a little more consistently challenging and gratifying.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!

The Convict is clicking with me now, and I had a couple of solid runs in a row. On one I just kept finding different shotguns (passed up a regular one in the store, got a Shotgrub from a chest on the first level and a Void Shotgun on the third). Right before the fourth floor boss, I get a Unicorn Horn and hello jammed Kill Pillars from literally one curse factor. I still feel like garbage at the game overall, but a higher level of garbage than before.

Sidenote: The Moonscraper absolutely shithouses the Beholster. Wave it around right and it'll instantly pop the missiles and instantly shred the beholders or whatever the little guys he spawns are called. That plus a molotov to his face was probably the quickest boss fight I've had so far.

Power of Pecota

Also the Treadnaught nerf is really noticeable, I got him to like 20% with a less than half full Void Marshal and the Bow (wasn't out of ammo on anything else, that's just all that I could get).

Einwand

You idiot.
In this world it's pet or BE pet.

The game is overall fun but there's definitely some weird little problems left. The knights on the first floor take relatively quite awhile and seem to be baby's first lesson in circle strafing, with the starting guns for any character they're just kind of tedious and easy, but then they just keep showing up on later floors with more hp while still being absolutely harmless no matter what room they show up in. Even in the bonus floor they're usually completely harmless despite that entire floor's gimmick being outright loathing the player. The lead maidens are either kind of annoying or incredibly dangerous depending on the room they spawn in, that tiny room with the 8 tables is by far my least liked room to run into them on floor 2, while the "big" enemies all the other floors add are easier to deal with than it, probably because it's invulnerable during the time it's not covering everything in spikes.

Some of the bosses are kind of dumb too, Treadnaught's summons losing their ability to lead their shots completely fixes that fight and I can't really complain about him anymore. The Ammoconda is kind of annoying but not really problematic until it decides to eat 6 of those little egg things, which have way too much hp to even be worth trying to kill, over a minute and just takes absolutely forever to finish with even a decent weapon, the High Priest's random pellet spawns around the edge of the map can completely screw you over at random, and sometimes the High Dragun just kind of decides that he really likes swords today and keeps replacing them the instant you kill them which is really annoying seeing as the swords combined with the other attacks is the most dangerous part of that entire fight. No complaints about the bonus boss, I really like that fight despite the fact progression wise there's literally no reason to fight him more than once, dude doesn't even give you any h-credits for some reason.

Runs that give you two non offensive passives and/or two locked brown chests without the shopkeeper selling a gun on the first floor are awful and I hate them.

Totally true, but personally speaking the amount of time and ammo I spend popping eggs costs me a lot more than just backing off and hammering the boss from a safe distance. It's definitely annoying if two or more eggs spawn in a row, but even if you were focusing the eggs that's a long time you're spending not damaging the boss. This is just my preferred method though

Also I will say that Machine Fist is my favorite weapon that runs out of ammo instantly.
