It isn't like the original stormtrooper rifles were much to write home about. Even Han's pistol was just like a Mauser pistol with a nozzle thing on the end. They're uncivilized anyway.

None of the TFA blasters are 'generic sci fi guns'. A lot of the TFA guns are based off of AR bodies. Basically the WW2 equivalent for 2015 ie guns used in the gulf war. They looked fine? You can even see the magazine well for the AR body in Finn's gun, like you could see the magazine well of the old stens in the OT star wars blasters. The TFA stormtrooper guns are the old models but with 'modern' accouterments like polymer body & molded stock.

Finn's is infact very similar to the old A280 blaster rifle the rebels used in ESB & ROTJ, which was also based off the M-16 body. And in the movie they are considered republic surplus, outdated tech, given they are upgrades of weapons used 30 years ago and now outdated, that makes sense! Poe uses the same one Finn does but with an extended stock and it looks nooice

TFA followed the gun design aesthetics of the PT & OT pretty much by the numbers. A lot of the more outlandish looking guns are all on background characters that you can only really get a good look at in the visual dictionary, and a lot of them are very cool I wish they got some screen time.

Yeah, all in all they look very similar to the original ones. Just for comparison:

OT Stormtrooper E-11:

TFA Stormtrooper F-11d:

OT Rebel A280c:

TFA Rebel El-16:

The Stormtrooper blaster in particular is pretty much exactly the old gun with some fancy white finish and more elaborate stock, which works pretty well given how the First Order seems all about projecting an orderly and imposing image. The new rebel blaster does look different, but still similar enough that you could reasonably see it as a new model that evolved from the original A280c or was built by the same manufacturer. In either case, the overall look and aesthetic is pretty drat close.

Somebody, or a couple of somebodies were saying in the TFA thread that all the new weapons looked like crap. I'll be damned if I can see that in your pics, though. They are basically carbon copies of the OT weapons.

Swag. (also in the movie most of the blasters dont have the fixed stock)

In the visual dictionary the fixed stock is a removable customization & the 'folding stock' is just a collapsible grip.

But that would fly in the face of "If you a a Sith and you die its game over" from the OT (But it would be a drat good plot twist if they could get it to work)

I tend to favour the theory floating around the internet that Snoke is Darth Plagus, a lot of the infomation matches up and i simply dont believe they have just dropped a force using character into the films that has no history or connection to anything, with all the other links in the film he would stick out like a 30 foot blue hologram.

Im sorry, its been pulled when they realised what they had done. If its any help it was featured in one of the star wars threads here on SA. Perhaps one of the more "knows what they are doing" people could search for it? I believe it is in the giant SW thread that covers all films and the EU books but i might be lieing.

EDIT:

Sorry all, im talking bollocks.. i tried finding it with google and it has been officially cleared up as a misunderstanding, it very luch sounds like "cousin" but its actually "curses"

I imagine getting the script for this movie they had made a big deal about you signing on to and finding your entire role is "stand around and talk about men doing things and then hug the main character who you've never met before" had to be one of the most infuriating/deflating goddamn things. Like she has more to do in like five minutes in any and every other Star Wars movie she did than she does in Force Awakens. I'd give the bare minimal effort at that point, too.

I got the impression that Lucas told the three OT principals that their roles would be small when he signed them up. He sold them as their characters handing off their mantels to the "next generation". While we don't know Lucas's original treatment, my guess is that in Abram's reworking, Han's screen time was greatly expanded, Luke's was essentially eliminated, and Leia's must have been about the same.

Given that Laura Dern is apparently involved in the Poe/Leia story quite deeply and there is no mention of a character like her at all in that, I'm gonna venture to say that 90% of that is bullshit with some broad strokes that are spot-on like Luke talking with the ghosts of Obi-Wan and Yoda and Maz being somewhere in the picture, probably in something like a vision quest for Rey.

As it is apparently Dern is a lower commander in the Resistance who inserts herself as leader when Leia is put into a coma by a First Order ambush, much to Poe's chagrin. Poe rebels against her command and eventually takes over the Resistance himself after Dern's character makes a bunch of decisions that suggest she might be a FO mole operating within the Republic's chain of command. Presumably Leia wakes up before the end of the picture and resumes her leadership - or maybe she lets Poe retain his position as a "passing the torch" thing, since this movie's probably going to be stacked high with that sentiment after TFA, initially designed to be a torch-passing movie, turned into "hey guys, it's HAN SOLO~!" instead when JJ and Kasdan took over the script from Arndt. Who knows.

Also apparently at some point Luke looks for someone in an alien casino. Which also isn't mentioned anywhere in that synopsis. He also lives in a hut that looks like a honeycomb. There are pictures of this honeycomb hut and I swear to God it looks like something out of Willow.

Yeah, if you're going to take the time to write up a fake story outline, at least incorporate the existing spoilers leaked by reliable sites.

In regards to the honeycomb hut, I'm not sure what you're referring to. There have been several pictures of the reproduced Skellig Michael stone huts, which look just like the huts we saw in TFA already... Did you seen an incomplete one which didn't have all the rock in place maybe? Or are you talking about the shape? Because I guess you could call that a honeycomb, I mean it's like a bell, yurt or igloo shape.
