While I think Irenicus' best line is "Do you cling to the past or can you see through the pain?" for basically encapsulating the series as a whole, my favorite lines of his have to be this one: "I... I do not remember your love, Ellesime. I have tried. I have tried to recreate it, to spark it anew in my memory, but it is gone... a hollow, dead thing. For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. And then nothing. The Seldarine took that from me, too! I look upon you and feel nothing. I remember nothing but you turning your back on me, along with all the others. Once my thirst for power was everything. And now I hunger only for revenge - and I WILL HAVE IT!" David Warner just knocked these lines out of the park.

But my absolute favorite part is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdy-k_qLdQg&t=33s. It's not often that you have a villain announce that he only cares for power and it actually makes him more emphatic. Sadly, Ellesime's part is not nearly as good. I find the reveal that they would actually have allowed him back in if he had used his mortal years to redeem himself pretty interesting, though that is the kind of thing you might just want to tell someone, but the rest of dialog is pretty generic when it comes to good guy speeches.

I just killed Yxunomei and thought that's a good time to write something about the classes I've been using for this IWD:EE playthrough in case anyone cares: Blackguard: I really like this kit, but there are a lot of Undead early on that don't give a gently caress about most of its special abilities. A Blackguard can technically turn some them, I guess, but even my Cleric could only successfully turn the weaker ones most of the time. Dark Moon Monk: Monks of all kinds suck for a long time, although the Dark Moon one is a bit less of a liability than the regular one at least. IWD takes forever (until the halfway point of Dragon's Eye) to give you a face item Monks can use, too, so crits are an issue. As a result I've mostly had the Monk use throwing daggers and kept her away from melee. Dragon's Eye had some decent loot for her, though, and her AC is not completely terrible anymore, so things are looking up. Dragon Disciple: The Breath Weapon doesn't do enough damage, it falls off really quickly. Apart from that, losing spell slots isn't worth it, but it's also not a total deal-breaker since Sorcerers still get enough. So, not unplayable by any means, but the bonuses also aren't fun/relevant enough to take one. Unless it's for some gimmicky build that makes regular use of the kit's fire immunity, but it'll take a long time to get there. Fighter/Illusionist/Thief: A cheat character because Gnomes usually don't get to triple-class, but the extra spell has rarely come up. Also, IWD specialists lose two schools, so this guy doesn't get Abjuration, which might be a problem down the line. Anyway, he's been surprisingly good. Mirror Image has a longer duration in this, which helps a lot, and Sneak Attack instead of Backstab is also an overall buff especially in IWD which is usually less about eliminating one key enemy quickly. Being only 1/3 Thief has never been an issue wrt traps and locks either, and I think he might reach Mage level 7 just in time to be able to use Stoneskin as soon as the game finally hands you a scroll of it. Priest of Talos: Lightning Bolt is really good in IWD. I've only remembered that the Priest has it half the times it would have been relevant, and even so it's still been very helpful. Storm Shell kinda hasn't come up at all so far, though. Totemic Druid: The spirit summons are good but will often bounce off of things that need magical weapons to hit. Still, a lot better than the alternative. Druids in IWD in general are a bit less lovely early on than in BG because they get some actually helpful spells at low levels, but IWD definitely gives with one hand and takes away with another. Some spells are just outright missing (no Defensive Harmony for Druids in this), some aren't as good (Insect Plague is an AoE enemies can escape from and isn't party-friendly). e: I also like that you can pick what summon you want. I don't think that was possible in the non-EE versions, and they do all have their niches. Wizard Styles fucked around with this message at 14:42 on Apr 13, 2016 |

It's not often that you have a villain announce that he only cares for power and it actually makes him more emphatic. Absolutely. Memory of the memory is such a powerful line and it is one that's stuck with me, and one that tends to show up in my own writing as a consequence, time and time again. Irenicus is a great tragic character, really, which is made all the more apparent by the fact that all he had to do was try to be a good person - but he couldn't. And that, of course, raises the point that maybe he never could have honestly been able to, given what was done to him. I think Ellesime's lines are weakened by Kath Soucie. She's great, don't get me wrong, but she's one of those talents whose voice is so distinctive that it's too recognizable. I guess it's a rough line to walk, to have a distinctive voice but one that isn't too recognizable that it feels strange. It's kind of like Steven Blum, in that sense.

So, my party is chugging along nicely. I'm gradually remembering stuff from when I played years ago. I'm in the process of picking up magic weapons for all my characters. The one i'm currently stuck on is Minsc. I know there are a few magical 2H Swords around - I specifically remember the very strong (+4 maybe?) sword that gives you free movement, spiders something and the one that has made Brage go nuts , but i'm really looking for something I can get now, realistically a +1. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? Spoilers are probably unnecessary, but just in case.

I just found the Two-Hander +3 in Durlag's and its glorious. Other than mage combos, fighter->druid is my favourite PC to use. This sounds like a really fun CHARNAME build. I might plump for this in my SOD playthrough as my other game (^^^) is on my iPad and I don't seem to be able to get the expansion on there yet. A fighter starts SOD at level 7 right? So I can stomp around as a scimitars fighter for a couple of levels and then dual? Squibsy fucked around with this message at 16:57 on Apr 13, 2016 |

9 or 10. Fighters need to actually reach the cap to get their last level (which does next to nothing for them) and I got there just before the final battle with an imported character, playing with Insane difficulty enemy numbers. Berserker (9) -> Druid (10) needs less than 400k XP, though, you'll definitely get that.

So, I had an odd encounter with Drizz't. I was wandering along and saw a Gnoll, pulled back, and it walked away and started attacking Drizz't. He didn't fight back, so I just waited around, and after a few minutes they killed him. I chopped them all up, now i'm trying to work out what to do with his loot. Minsc has his chain, and I think i'm gonna give one of his Scimitars to Jaheira. Not sure about the other one, I might have to sell it. With that, though, is it worth getting the Dagger of Venom for J?

I started my latest BG1 run before SoD and not even planning around it, aiming for a Berserker(9)->Cleric. Well, I realized I didn't want to spend all of SoD as a wimp and just stuck to Berserker throughout, so I guess I'll just use EEKeeper to set my MC back to level 9 and Dual once I continue into BG2. Not any time for that yet, now that DS3 is out!
