Long Live The King!

Goddard was going to be the showrunner for season one, he wrote the pilot and was supposed to direct. But he left because he got the Sinister Six gig from Sony. He was still a producer for both seasons.

Is there an obvious reason why season 2 was a bit of a ... mess? I want to think it's because DeKnight wasn't there, but that's just assuming.

Parts of it were stronger, there other parts that were flat out incoherent.

I have a journalism background so all the paper stuff was utterly ridiculous to me but I was like "this isn't a documentary about writing for a newspaper so I don't expect the narrative to suborn itself to boring rear end reality"

It was slightly annoying if you are actually a lawyer because of how ridiculous it was. But I move past that stuff quickly.

"You're honor, permission to treat the witness as hostile." *Turns and gives a speech to the jury that would be shut down in 2 seconds by an objection from the prosecutor*

I don't know how doctors or cops can watch anything.

There's all kinds of poo poo like that you have to give a pass if you want narratives to work. No you can't bring people back to life with CPR, no you can't safely incapacitate someone for as long as you need by knocking them in the head, no you can't blow up propane tanks by shooting them, no you can't catch a car on fire and make it blow up with a gasoline trail. So either you let that poo poo bother you and never ever enjoy watching anything and make fidelity to reality your number one enjoyment priority or you can suspend your freaking disbelief.

As someone who underside law well enough to know how nonsense declaring a witness hostile in order to give closing statements when you should be questioning your witness is, I still really like the Daredevil courtroom drama. I kinda hope Marvel adds She Hulk to the TV world so we can get more courtroom drama.

Mind you, I am the furthest thing from a lawyer in real life (I have an arts degree for gods sake) but here are my Courtroom Bothers:

- Just the whole "she's pulled strings to move the trial up to next week!" "What strings?" "ALL OF THEM"
- the court allowing protesters, with signs, in the courtroom, during testimony, in front of a jury.
- Clancy Brown's testimony, while awesome because Clancy, delivered in 3rd person because I guess he expected an actual record scratch to play when he revealed the truth at the end.
- that Reyes had no idea about that twist. They handwave it with the redaction but it couldn't be that classified if he's talking about it in front of everyone
- Reyes in general. Ugh.
- "I'd like to treat this witness as hostile! So, my closing arguments then..."
- It was all so stupid.

Courtroom realism is probably near the bottom of the list of things I care about about in any fictional work. The protesters in the courtroom with signs is the only thing I even partially agree on there. That was kind of dumb.

Creepy little garbage eaters

The thing about the hostile witness/closing argument, which was on the face super dumb even to a person who's legal knowledge is gleaned entirely from watching Law & Order, is that Matt knew he was hosed because he heard the paid off guard tell Frank to throw the case.

The Hole isn't even the most interesting subplot. Karen mentions a brother and later we find out he's dead. Her reaction to the newspaper clipping immediately makes her cry. I understand it's a sad memory for her, but immediately tearing up? Something about this has traumatized her and it's not mentioned again.

But no let's talk about The Hole some more. I feel a deep connection with all that dirt I don't see.

Didn't they cover some of that in the first season? Like she probably caused it and that's why she can shoot Wesley because it's not the first time she's "killed"? And maybe it was covered up so she wouldn't go to jail or something?

Mystery Accident Causes Teen Fatality

16-year old teen died in a single-car crash, in Windler County on Friday, authorities said. The unsolved death of this young man is currently under investigation.

According to a Vermont Highway Patrol report, the young man, Kevin Paxton Paige, of Fagan Corners, veered off the roadway while heading east on Vermont Route 12 from the Hill Road exit ramp off Interstate 89.

For an unknown reason, Page's vehicle went through a chain-link fence and ran into an embankment on the north shoulder at about 1:40 pm.

Vermont Highway Patrol found Page dead at the scene. His body was taken to Windler Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The young man's death as well as the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Fun Trivia: The rest of the article is text from War of the Worlds. The text above the picture is from Moby Dick.

Karen sobs and asks if they read it. Ellison responds he and Ben both read it and didn't care. Ben must've found something linking to her, because that's pretty loving cold to say you don't care her little brother died in a car accident.

More Fun Trivia: In the comics Paxton Page is Karen Page's father aka Death's Head and the obituary on the right of the article mentions a Penelope which is Karen's mother.

For me season 2 was okay going on good but the finale fell apart under its own weight. Everything to do with Punisher before the finale was really good but it felt like they tried to shoehorn a redemption for him at the end that fell flat.

Think of the good things, Pim! The good things!

Like Jesus, candy, and crackerjacks! Ice cream and cake and lots o'laffs!
Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Joe! Larry, Curly, and brother Moe!
The whole Hand storyline in DD S2 feels like they spent most of the season going in one direction, and then abruptly jettisoned whatever their original plans were when they started writing the last couple episodes.

I don’t even primarily mean stuff like the hole or the creepy kids being completely unexplained, though that’s frustrating. It’s more that very little about the Black Sky makes sense.

First of all, it’s bullshit to treat Elektra being Black Sky as a big revelation, when you haven’t given us anything to go on other than “it sounds ominous” and “the Hand is evil, so whatever they want must be bad.” We don’t need to know absolutely everything, but we do need a better idea of what the actual stakes are.

Secondly, the developments in the last few episodes seem to completely contradict what little exposition we’d gotten previously about Black Sky. In the S1 episode and in the earlier episodes of S2, Black Sky seems to be merely a type of mystically superpowered person that the Hand has been attempting to cultivate and/or hoard (albeit without much success), but in the final episodes of S2, suddenly it's treated as a prophecy that only refers to a singular individual. It’s just plain weird.

Not to mention that despite being a weird psycho, Elektra doesn't seem to be supernaturally evil or have any kind of powers, whereas the other black skys all seem like some children of the corn poo poo.

It's disappointing that Daredevil season two was promoted as "Daredevil vs the Punisher" but that's only really in the first "act" of the season (i.e. first four episodes). After that, Daredevil's more concerned with the Hand, and the Punisher storyline more or less switches over to Karen.

Then again, I'm not sure whether you really can stretch "Daredevil vs the Punisher" to 13 episodes.

No, that's what people on the internet decided what it was going to be. The two trailers released before the season had one about the Punisher and one about Elektra.

You guys need to watch the season again, Elektra is one of the Black Sky candidates, Stick captures her, so later when DD thwarts their Black Sky Plans they turn to Elektra once they realize what she is.
