The platform he's running on as president emphasizes modernizing the country's economy into a social democracy though because there's only so much you can push for at once. His actual socialist policies are more wonkish and less interesting to voters.

Dick Cheney is aware of what he's done, and what he needs to keep doing to maintain power. Most dynasties are pretty bad at passing that information down through the centuries. Also, genetics might throw the occasional not-poo poo Cheney out into the world, while Dick will always be a monster. Basically, I'd rather have the dynasty on a level playing field, and if I can't get that, I'd at least like the dynasts to be mortal.
