http://edition.cnn.com/2016/04/20/europe/norway-anders-breivik-wins-suit/ If you remember this fellow killed 77 people back in 2011, he has now successfully sued the state for inhuman and degrading treatment in prison, complaints included strip searches and only having access to a playstation 2 (with lovely games) his cell looks like this he also has a private exercise room and a separate, private study cell good on him, if they wanna be pussies and not outright kill him then treat him the same as everyone else and give him I dunno at least a Wii U?

It sounds like mostly the inhumane treatment stuff referred to what he claimed to be excessive searches of his person and excessive restraints when moving from cell to cell and the courts more or less agree that if there isn't a reason to put handcuffs and search him constantly then they shouldn't be doing it just to remind him he's a second class citizen. Which honestly seems okay to me if he's been a cooperative prisoner and there's no real evidence he plans on going out in a blaze of glory fighting the guards. Didn't see the playstation mentioned at all in the article op linked but it seems like kind of a dumb point anyways. Iirc there's been several stats showing giving prisoners decent entertainment keeps em calm and docile so w/e if video games make jails more humane and decreases security concerns then by all means give them an xbone. Harsh punishment is often not a deterrent to these individuals crimes, and as such only serves as a sort of short lived self indulgent vengeance, solving nothing and providing little to no real comfort to those who survived the victims. Treating these individuals humanely, while becoming more vigilant about mental health screening and services, is the best deterrent to recidivism, and elevates us as a species above petty, instinctual revenge. So, there's a reason.
