Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu or Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is a web novel turned light novel turned manga turned anime adaptation from the studio White Fox, famous for forum favourites Steins;Gate and Katanagatari. The director is Watanabe Masaharu (Wakaba Girl) and the screenwriter is Yokotani Masahiro (The Devil Is a Part-Timer), with music by Suehiro Kenichirou (primarily jdrama). Subaru is a regular boy in his final year of high school on his way home from the store, when he's suddenly dumped into a bustling street market in Another World filled with Fantasy Creatures and People of Mystical Races. So far, so cliché. What makes this series stand out a bit is that the hero really is a regular guy, with no powers or magical skills at all. The only thing he's equipped with is the power of not giving up, which comes in handy, because he keeps dying. And every time he dies, he pops up right back where he started, in that street market, all body parts intact. In other words, he's practically living out a Dark Souls game, where he's always respawning at the last auto-save point. Expect gore. The original web novel was written by Nagatsuki Tappei and published on the web novel portal Narou, where it's currently ranked #27 overall. It started in 2012 and is still getting (free) updates there, even as the paper light novel publication is trying to catch up. The written material is up to 10100 pages, which is the equivalent of over 30 light novel volumes, so they're not likely to run out of stuff to adapt, and the anime is supposedly scheduled for ~25 episodes. Crunchyroll is streaming it on Sundays at http://www.crunchyroll.com/rezero-starting-life-in-another-world- Official website | MAL

I'm really enjoying this one. The characters are great, and the world-building seems deep and interesting. Probably my most anticipated show for this coming weekend.

I like this and am ready for whatever crazy train ride it takes me on The only thing that annoyed me about it so far is that it took the MC two deaths to figure out what was going on

I've been reading the manga, and even though it has some kind of stereotypically "anime" stuff the overall plot is very unique.

I hope for MC-kun that he gets new save points later on, so he won't have to start over at the appa stand even after clearing this first quest once.

This show feels intriguing. It's kinda scratching my time traveling Steins;Gate-like itch. That scene in the second episode with Elsa was pretty well executed I just can't shake the feeling this kind of show is best marathoned though, it moves forward too slowly, even if I don't dislike the pace itself.

The best way I can describe this show so far is "fantasy All You Need is Kill" and I'm liking it so far. It beat my expectations for it so I'm on board.

I found his attempt to use magic to try to save a kid in danger of being trampled by a runaway cart to be more egregious. Granted that my worldview might be broadened a bit by being transported to an apparently-fantastic realm filled with all shapes and colors of furries, I don't think I'd believe "Oh, I go back in time to X point in time when I die" after the first time, either.

The thing is he immediately recognises and accepts that he's been transported to a fantasy world because of tropes, but he takes a long time to grasp the time looping despite that being an equally common trope. It's a minor niggle, though. I've really enjoyed the interactions between the cast so far and the central gimmick is compelling. My hope is the entire series is set during this one awful, no good, terrible day.

fantasy groundhog day can't wait till we get to the crushing depression act where he just kills himself on the alley goons over and over or goes on a looting spree

One thing I did find frustrating was our protagonist's actions after he realized that he was in a time loop. Hey, buddy. You met both Felt and Satella after getting the poo poo kicked out of you by the alley thugs, and that won't happen if you beat them all up yourself. Try branch-points further down the line before you go down an entirely different route.

That cliffhanger was evil I tell you, now I'm intensely curious and hence hooked on this show. Not that the animation and suprisingly graphic fighting didn't do that before, but drat it my curiosity demands answers to what set Reinhard off. Betting on the classic Lost Princess/Heiress. I'm quite enjoying this. I'm not usually a fan of adaptations of things I've already read (I haven't tried the LNs, but I am following the manga(s)), but somehow this is managing to hold my attention.

This scene honestly stumped me because its seeing the insignia that set him off, but instead of arresting it's owner he arrests the thief who has otherwise nothing to do with it; which confuses and intrigues me. I actually got Dark Souls vibes from how slower paced the earlier combat was; especially with Elsa doing her short bursty dodges. It never occurred to me that the time loop is almost exactly the same. The painful deaths are just icing on that cake. I like this show a lot as to how it kinda deconstructs the you've been summoned to another magical world by completely dumping on the MC before finally letting him have his MC status. I especially liked the moment where the girl comments on Subaru clearly not having evidence of being a peasant because of his modern first world life style. I remember a question once on a different forum "If you could pick any location in 1100 AD where would you go?" And I had a similar line of reasoning that you could probably convince people you're a noble because of those sorts of characteristics if language wasn't a problem. This show has small moments that appeals to my inner nerd.

I was really digging the first three episodes (holy poo poo, a LN adaption with honest-to-god good pacing?? that's a first), but the fourth episode has really cranked up the usual LN garbage baggage to almost unbearable levels. I'll still keep watching, because the last few seconds got an honest "Aw poo poo!" reaction from me. Again. Curse you, good pacing. MagicBoots posted:I think he was murdered in his sleep. Still, think about the amount of time it threw him back. It's been like 5 days since he came to the mansion according to the maid, and now he's all the way back at the start instead of the last day.

Now he needs to survive to the next one. MagicBoots fucked around with this message at 21:09 on Apr 24, 2016 |

Subaru's biggest issue seems to be how he can't plan more than 5 minutes ahead. Which is quite a problem when his only special ability really requires planning whole days ahead at a time.

Feels like the tiny librarian is gonna be the big key for his survival of whatever the hell happened this time. Seemed like she knew what was gonna happen to him once he went to bed. Hard to get any good idea of what was the cause from loop one though.
