I don't think predicting that a coalition comprised entirely of people who hate coalitions won't last quite requires the madness of a Goebbels but perhaps that is the joke.

How safe is Highsec? If you're say, a lone goon can you just hang out in Jita or some other Highsec space, and anyone who tries to attack you will be killed by NPC police? Or is it still dangerous if you're high enough value that they're willing to get killed to gank you. My closest point of comparison would be Goblin run towns in a PvP zone in World of Warcraft back in the day, where nothing was stopping you from attacking other players except lots of guards I wasn't good enough to kill. Except in one goblin town, Ratchet, where the guards were very sporadically placed and I'd get killed/kill people a lot in certain spots.

If you're in highsec, the only way people can legally* attack you is if you're either: 1) -5.0 security status or below 2) Have a suspect timer 3) Have a Global Criminal Timer (If you're in a ship other than a capsule, you will be unable to warp and CONCORD will show up to kill you within 24 seconds, no matter where or how you obtained this timer.) 4) Have a limited engagement with an aggressor 5) Are at war with an aggressor Faction Police, or the Faction Military will attack you if you have a standing of -5.0 or worse with the faction that controls the system you're in, or are at war with the faction that controls the system (ie being in the Amarr Militia while in Minmatar space) *People can always illegally attack you, and they have somewhere between 6 and 24 seconds before CONCORD, the invulnerable and unstoppable police force comes in and kills them. So if someone attacked your expensive battleship with 20 destroyers, they would have a decent chance to kill you even illegally.

If you're in GSF, highsec is not safe at all, as several alliances pay fees to the NPCs in order to be allowed to shoot us on sight. Other than that it is relatively safe, since anyone that attacks a neutral person will get attacked and immediately killed by the NPCs within 5-20 seconds.

There are two main mechanics for pvp in highsec (excluding things like criminal status), suicide ganking and wardecs. Suicide ganking typically means getting in a high-DPS "glass cannon" ship and killing someone before the "guards" can respond. If their loot drop is more valuable than the ship(s) you lost to CONCORD you turn a profit or are at least entertained by carebear tears.  recently hit this with a big nerf (boosting damage resists of freighter hulls) and is planning on giving it a further kick in the junk by making it impossible to delay someone from warping for more than 3 minutes (which makes it very difficult to assemble a fleet to kill a high-value target).Wardecs allow your corp to purchase a license to shoot another corp consequence free in high-sec. It has legitimate uses but is mostly associated with risk-averse "mercenaries" who want to farm easy killmails on trade hub undocks/gates. Basically every poo poo 'highsec pirate" group has GSF permanently wardecced so if you sit around in a high-traffic area on a GSF char you will get attacked. It's always fun scanning the 4-4 undock for Miniluv and watching GSF/FCON/SMA (OK mostly FCON) trying to undock anything bigger than an interceptor and getting plastered.

The descent to poo poo was compounded by Digg dying and it swelling with former Digg users. Linkfilter and Metafilter were superior link aggregators regardless. I came to SA when Metafilter sort of dried up.
