Wasn't it Warren Specter or somebody who was initially behind it? As I recall, their focus-testing found that people didn't respond well to this weird dark Disney take and they wanted more classic Mickey elements to it. So they made a sort of okay but not that okay platformer game in an era where 3-D platformers were not highly desired.
