That tends to be the moment anything will become ruined; the moment the bar is lowered past the critical point where the great churning mass of complete idiots can make use of it or become aware of it. I bet you could write a thesis on figuring out the exact threshold at which that happens. Obligatum VII fucked around with this message at 20:56 on Apr 30, 2016 |

The game, I presume, keeps a running counter of enemies slain and items acquired/sold/used (in the case of Soul of ________ items), which is then used to determine the "correct" number of souls that your character should have at any given point in time. The weapon he's using applies several hundred thousand souls to them, which causes the anticheat detection in the game to flag that character for a potential softban, as it didn't detect an incremented number of enemies slain/items sold/whatever to match the new soul value.

You're right in that the Outrider Knight is way harder than Vordt, but you can cheese it very easily by just running to the door. Turtlicious posted:I'm actually really really upset that this is happening irl. Blame From Software for their bizarre anticheat decisions, I guess. eur0pa, the guy who made the DS1 PVP Watchdog (which would prevent the kind of shenanigans you're seeing right now), can't lift a finger for DS3 because the game now detects and bans for code injections (which PVP Watchdog needs). Instead of going with something like his system (which should have worked pretty easily, given the similarities between DS1 and DS3 data structures), they chose to instead go with an easily exploitable system that's being used to flag completely innocent people for banning. From Software is loving bad at computer. Tallgeese posted:Not true, I can make myself immune to what this guy is doing via memory editing. Interesting. Is that something that could be put into a functional script, or does it require manual editing?

A break from Alienation taken: I really like the covenant level range adjustments, even more action for my level 25. What is it like in higher tiers, a chance to ever get those ears another way than grinding knights forever? A good change that adds more play, just too bad about the lack of player poise screwing over so many build plans still.

He can't do poo poo to hit you, all of his range attacks (I'm counting his attacks he does to get right up in your face) are easy to dodge and pitiful. It'll take nearly all your arrows, but wow, it makes this fight a joke. Incidentally the insane theory that Nameless King has a name is remarkably compelling.

Tallgeese posted:No, and if you use one you'll risk a softban just for that. Just how stupid is the anti-cheat anyways? Does it check for changes in the client side files or does it check at the server level? Do these modifications hit the client first or the server? If it IS dumb enough to look at the client level or the modifications affect the client level before it hits the server character data (and if the anti-cheat doesn't check for messing with packets like noting there's is a missing chunk of a sequence, which it may not if it's stupid enough), wouldn't it be possible to do some form of packet filtering to prevent getting messed up? Although if they use encryption on the packets in any way, that's probably not viable. I'm almost tempted to start doing packet captures to investigate, but I'm far too lazy. My apologies if anything I just said is stupid with more context, my knowledge on this stuff is pretty rudimentary. Edit: Messing around with packets would probably nuke your connection if anything actually does get filtered, but that's maybe a better alternative. Internet Kraken posted:What exactly is going on that people are suddenly worried about hackers? Is the game even more broken than DS1/DS2? Its literally as broken as DS1, maybe even moreso. The same code that allowed hackers to Egghead/curse you in DS1 allows hackers to give you hundreds of thousands of souls and hollowing. This triggers the anti-cheat which flags your account for a soft ban/warning.
