Copied from WikiPedia: Android, Feature phones (au, NTT DoCoMo, SoftBank), iOS, Namco System 246 (arcade system board), Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 I have only played on the PSP so far and done some subbing work on one of the series.

Counterpoint: I'm a massive MH fan and in some ways I think Toukiden actually improves on the formula. I've played Kiwami for 300 hours and have barely any final-form weapons so there's plenty to do. It strips out some of the tedious parts of Monster Hunter -- there's no consumable items to buy or craft, all those functions being replaced by skills inherited from your mitama (spirits you attach to your weapons). Also, it runs great, the weapons and monster designs are cool, and the visuals are vastly better than the 3DS MH games. Oh and it doesn't matter about 11 people online or whatever, all online missions are playable with the AI characters, who are significantly more skilled and reliable than any actual random humans I've played with. A massive improvement over MH, IMO, where you either have to find a group to play with or struggle with idiot randoms or solo monsters in multiplayer quests that are balanced for 4 people and thus take forever to kill. Basically if you like Monster Hunter, or wanted to try it but were scared off by the learning curve, get it. Then get God Eater 2: Rage Burst during the summer, which also has a great twist on the MH formula. GE2 is also really fun, has competent AI characters and unique weapons and mechanics. Unfortunately the monster designs in GE are pretty godawful, IMO, but that's just my personal taste. Toukiden 2 will be out in a couple months in Japan too, and that has a fully open-world setup and some cool additions including a demon hand you can use to grapple monsters and such. The series has a ton of promise and I wish people would give it a proper go instead of just dismissing it as an MH clone. Besides, MHX/Generations blatantly snagged some ideas from Toukiden (jumping off monsters, super moves), so it's all come full-circle anyway

Good to know Toukiden can stand on its own. I heard good things when it came out. The only real issue I can see the game having is solid staying power. It's like a fantasy MMO trying to go toe-to-toe with the hulking gorilla that is World of Warcraft. Plenty of games have come out that have looked better, played better, improved mechanics, and done any number of other things better than WoW but have still died in obscurity or simply shrank to just a small following. Why? Because WoW is established and has the name to carry it. Hell, even a brand name like Star Wars struggles to put up a solid fight. MH is the same way. Games like Toukiden, Freedom Wars, or other similar games may come along and genuinely do things better or innovate the franchise, but they will still all eventually fall to Monster Hunter simply because people want more Monster Hunter and not more "just like" Monster Hunter.
