Grey should totally be able to cream the AI with his superior game playing ability.

What's that you say? He still hasn't conquered Singapore or even finished conquering the DEI? He's almost a month behind schedule on both accounts?

Also, I think you manually have to tell that unit to magically transmute supply into torpedoes every time it runs low/out.

You can rightclick the button you buy torps with an it gives you an "always have x amount of torps here, insert x" option instead of buying torps.

It's still a lot better than last time. He had bad luck both times with Pearl though (something wrong with his settings or just bad luck?).

It'll come down to the decisive battle. If he can win he should be able to outperform history. If not his conquest of China will only help mitigate the situation.

Well, it's either that or lose slowly, barring a genius plan and execution.

Plus as they say, with the AI as it is, there'll be a better chance than historical.

Because of how the game works, a decisive carrier battle can actually win the game for you. If you manage to reverse Midway the Allied sometime in 1942, it will take a long time before the Allies have enough carriers to challenge you again, time you can use to to either complete a bigger offensive (like taking Australia) or just digging in as hard as you can.

I have come to discourse on the profound inequities of the American political system.

I remember reading one WiTP LP wherein the player had fought and won like three or four midway battles. Even though they were winning the war at sea, they were still forced to give ground pretty much everywhere else

Basically, unless you win so hard that you get autovictory, Japan loses, full stop.

The Ambon guns hit our ships hard.

This is a bloody good shot from a bomber that big at 12,000 feet....

250kg bombs just don't make that much of a dent in the armour of well constructed Royal Navy Battleships it seems – unless I'm controlling them, at which point, they go kaboom when one lands within a kilometre.

We do some nice damage to a troop convoy.

Singapore sees some heavy fighting, but the destroyed squads favour us.

At least we're pinning their bombers down here!

We took some heavy ship losses today.

Actually, its not as bad as I thought.

Graph time!

I'm in the lead! Yes, I'm massively behind where the AI was, but I pulled troops back while the AI is fighting tooth and nail for the ground.

The enemy strong-points mean we're behind in taking bases.

I have no idea why their base points have bounced back, but we need to take Singapore and be moving on to Rangoon already.

Air losses remain steady, and much lower than last time.

And here is the good news – I'm killing them – while my losses are about the same as the AI, we have destroyed a lot more units – the AI is holding this ground and slowing me down, but it is costing them in lives.

That said, they have a few more ships than last time – but then again, they have been cowering in their ports for the post part. BRING OUT THE REAL ENTERPRISE YOU COWARDS!

See, nothing of value has been killed on either side.

Dive bombers aren't how you sink capital ships usually (lol IJN damage control). That's what torpedoes are for, and Japan has probably the best in the entire world during WW2.

The Revenge wasn't really built to withstand hits from above though. She's a barely upgraded, WW1-era, knife-fighting boat designed to take horizontal-fire hits on the flanks as she closes to blast something. Dive bombing wasn't a major consideration in 1913.

Also, according to Wikipedia while the Revenge had some upgrades over the years that added more anti-aircraft guns one gets the impression that it was still pretty underequipped to handle air attacks.

With the Decoy out of commission I don't know if there's much hope for the Revenge (unless, of course, this is the same crack squad of pilots that hit Pearl Harbor).

On the other hand, there is a pretty good chance that these pilots have already dropped more bombs on the Revenge than were dropped at Pearl Harbor, so I think we should be good.

I assume the save file for that game is long gone, so I'm asking mostly for this one:
is there any way to cheat and look at things from the AI's perspective? It would be nice to check Allied intelligence after the war is over. Interpret is as war documents getting publicly released.

Dammit, I forgot to pull these ships out.

The subs have been quiet for some time.

The Sealion tries to make it to the Kido Butai, but is seen off by the escorts.

Seriously? I think my B-17 never hit a ship in four years....

Hey! We're finally piling enough bombs onto these battleships that its starting to affect their buoyancy.

Keep on weighing them down!

Another troop convoy burns.

For the love of....

THEY HAVE TO SINK SOMETIME!

That's a nice big passenger liner, please sink her as well.

I hope those disabled squads can swim....

The battle for Singapore continues, tomorrow, I may risk a Shock attack.

Just so its not all the DEI, here is another Chinese force getting its asses kicked.

We did some nice damage today, but we also took several hits, so lets look at the butchers bill.

A dud bounces off one of our destroyers as the Sealion continues to pursue the carriers. We may have hit her though.

My destroyers are not exactly covering themselves in glory today.

IT HAS HAPPENED!
The day of days has arrived, Singapore finally falls to our forces. 25,000 men and 29 units surrender to our forces – its been a long fight, but this should send the war skyrocketing in our direction.

Our main force moves back to Batavia, they try a shock attack, but things can't go all right for me today.

The long march north is over. Now we can rest up for a while, then turn south for Chunking. Then we'll have another long siege.

A quicker day than yesterday, but a much more productive one – now to sweep the harbour for mines before moving this force north for Rangoon – the next massive points sink. Yes, I know I should really have the city already, but you know the score on that one.
A massive 3,391 point swing in our direction is nice, and will be visible on the graphs.

Always something of a downer.
