I've still got my fingers crossed for "faithless electors", despite any state laws forbidding them. And then a riot on the convention floor.

Edit: not a race riot, though. You'd need more than one race.

No trolling. How do people actually believe this is a surefire thing when he is gaining on her?

Because it's May and those poll numbers aren't relevant right now. Also the electoral map is still enormously favorable to democrats this year. When he's gaining on her or ahead of her in October you can start worrying

Because:
- Everyone knows the election will be a 2-5% split
- The electoral map is favorable
- The contrast between the two sides is monstrous

Speaking of whether or not May polls are useful, here's a timely and informative post:

http://election.princeton.edu/2016/05/01/what-do-head-to-head-general-election-polls-tell-us-about-november/

tl;dr: Polls are useful in May, but more useful in October.

Yeah. I dislike Hillary intensely (not a US citizen so it doesn't matter, chill out), but it would take a 9/11 grade catastrophe to swing this to Trump, and even then it's a long shot.

History being the crooked thing it is, though, I wouldn't write it out. It took the 2008 crash to make Obama go from a flip of the coin to a sure thing.

It isn't just state laws, the GOP committee rules don't allow for faithless delegates. As it stands now even if they vote for someone else if gets tallied for who they were supposed to vote for.

I have said before and I'll say it again: Trump is not uniquely unelectable. All things equal, he will probably lose because the electoral math favors the democrats and he has higher unfavorables than Clinton. But a sudden terrorist attack or economic collapse could hand the election to Trump on a platter by virtue of being the Republican.

Like, I know the math looks awful for him right now.

But didn't the math for him becoming the nomination look awful for him a matter of a month or two ago? I feel like we keep doing this song and dance, and if it's him or Hillary in the general, I worry that so many Republicans people are expecting to stay home or vote for nobodies will hold their noses and do the Don.
