I look forward to the interest rates on US treasury paper going up 0.1 points for every point Trump closes on Clinton in the polls, since, you know, the guy is literally saying the country doesn't want to pay its debt in full. The best part is that this is essentially the Bravely Default school of fiscal policy, but brought to its logical conclusion. Just like the abortion gaffe.

Well, considering how close we came in 2011 with the debt ceiling "crisis" (and I personally witnessed interning in Congress) because US lawmakers are loving idiots who don't know even the basics of America's relationship to the international economy or how national debt works, lenders have precedence to worry. David Brooks was a GOP insider back in the 90's, he might just know more than us. Edit: Wait, I'm thinking of David Brock. David Brooks is just that one guy who seems nice and smart sometimes but secretly has terrible opinions that make him compulsively vote GOP.

BI NOW GAY LATER posted:a government shutdown does not favor trump Please explain how "the usual destructive behavior of those career politicians" in this hyperpartisan environment hurts the "outsider"? Even during the 2013 shutdown, 49% of Americans either blamed Democrats or both parties equally. If they blame Democrats for a shutdown they aren't going to not vote for Trump. And if they blame both parties equally, they're definitely not voting for a "more of the same" candidate like Hillary (but they might be willing to vote for an outsider like Trump)
