Dark Souls 1 is an easier buy when it's constantly at like 5 bucks for the last few years.

I approve of the end of this video Also, apparently this bug doesn't exist any more, but a sadistic part of me wanted Geop to join the rock covenant because when the game first released (and I think up until the Scholar patch) there was a bug where once you joined that covenant, that was it, there was no way to bring the enemies back to their normal level. Had to abandon my first character because of that.

Nice use of Roundabout there. The Tower of Heide redesign has some moves that reek of "This is a hard game, losers " The Knight shuffle is just a part of it.

I dunno, to me it makes more sense that Heide Knights would also be found in Heide Tower of Flames. And they don't actually make the area any harder--the area they potentially make harder is the Cathedral of Blue which is no longer a critical, early access thing due to the re-shuffling of items. You have to kill exactly one Heide Knight, same as the exactly one most people probably killed up to that point in vanilla DS2.

Oh man I just figured out this LP was a thing! So happy. The last one was my company during some rough times, and got me to start playing this series I'm in love with now.

I think Goonther would be able to kill the Ultimate Life Form by just setting himself on fire and giving him a big bear hug. That ending was so sassy, I love it.

I'm not quite sure where the roots of the name are supposed to lie, but since I'm German my mind jumps to something that sounds somewhat similar to "Hide-uh". Which can be a female name. Or mean heathen. I don't think either of those tie into the lore of the place, though. Well, they can if you choose to interpret it some specific way, I suppose. Llab posted:Nice use of Roundabout there. The Heide redesign doesn't make the first part of it any harder. It still has the same number of Old Knights, and the addition of the Heide Knights more properly sets the Cathedral of Blue and its significantly harder boss off from the player unless they're feeling particularly spicy. You don't have to go back to Heide's Tower of Flame, ever, if you don't want to, so you don't have to deal with the Heide Knights ever.

What a loving way to end the update. Out of all the changes this game made, my favorite is probably the message system. It's robust enough to convey complex concepts now, but you still have to get creative with it to get your message across.

I do like the turnaround with the Blue Sentinels where Crestfallen Saulden gets you into the covenant and tells you they are your friendly helpers. then you talk to Maughlin and find out the Blue Sentinels are basically the Mafia.

I always thought the gate contraptions around Majula were there to keep the hollows out.

Fun fact about Heide: The view you get of Majula from Heide is not the same as the view of Heide you get from Majula. See, when you're in Majula, Heide appears to be sitting right in the middle of the ocean. When you're actually at Heide, however, the towers are right up against the mountainside. I can only assume this means the Heide buildings are sentient and were going for a swim.

NGDBSS posted:The 360 releases were international only, since the console has markedly low popularity in Japan. But oddly enough, the PC port was available in Japan just like the PS3 releases. Microsoft just hasn't done well marketing its consoles to the second most populous island in the world, which really makes you wonder. Hell, it's bad enough that (relative) blockbusters like Tales of Vesperia could actually cause a significant change in purchasing habits. MS did everything in their power to get the Japanese interested in the 360, they just didn't bite. Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, getting the Lupin guy to do the cover art for Crackdown, etc.

Out of all the times I've gone through DS2 I've never actually gone to Tower of Heide first except an aborted hard mode run. I wonder how rough that is going to be in Scholar with those changes.

Otherwise the end of the latest video happens way too often.

Yeah the choice in the early game is similar to dark souls 1 in a way. If you pick cleric who starts with a mace, theres nothing really stopping you from going to the cemetery place in dark souls 1. Similarly if you pick cleric here who starts with a mace you can just kill all the giants here easily.

It''s a good thing to notice how they don't bleed at all. The typical doctrine is "slash it if it's made of meat, stab it if it's wrapped in metal", but there's no use poking holes into the armor if it doesn't seem there's anything to hurt inside it. On my deprived runs, I spared my dagger's durability by just two-hand-bashing them to death with the little wooden shield. Did about as much damage as a single slash, just took a little longer.

Strike weapons in general are kinda overpowered in this game. On the down side, this means dex builds tend to be weak. On the plus side, this means that fist builds are awesome.

They were just kind of scattered around and didn't do anything except have guaranteed lightning damage weapon drops. They didn't have any significance to the game and it didn't really make much sense for them to be in other places like they were, but not in Heide's Tower of Flame, the area they were named after.

They'd be in another area because this is a starting area and you know what they do.

You can royally gently caress things up this way. I oughtta have said they feel weak, as it's easy to slip into the same habits as you would with more solid weapons. The other issue with them is how quickly they wear down, and though that was partially due to a bug (which I think was fixed), it's still necessary to use one of the rings that slow breakage if you plan on taking them for any long hauls. There's incentive, though, aside from the counter damage. Paired curved swords and the newly-introduced twinblades are super fun with the improved combat movesets this game brought.
