You gotta feel for the Roes continuously lugging around boxes in Golden Saucer. Get close and they're just like, "don't ask what's in the box. Just don't." And then they continue infinitely on their route with no rest or reprieve.

I finally understand everything there is to know about axes!
I like the NPC in Idylshire that keeps wondering why they don't hire a person with x magic. So far it's been paving magic and levitation magic. I also loved the Roe in the BSM 50 gear who just wanted to ring the retainer bell, that was adorable.

The little floating text in this game is really good and the bit characters are why I check in to the Rising Stones several time each patch to keep an eye on their story. I was happy when Hoary Boulder and Coultinet returned.

It does amaze me how many bits of pop-up text I've still missed over the years, and all of it great. :allears:

I've been wanting to buy the Mac client for a while since the re-released it with some performance fixes, but have always been leery of it. Since it was on sale for $30 I took a chance, hoping I could bitch and moan enough for a refund if it was unplayable. Aside from the download link in the store being outdated and needing to redownload a 15GB file from their slow rear end servers the game actually runs pretty close to it's Windows counterpart for me. I'm using a 970 and at max settings and 2560x1440 windowed I get 40-50fps in large areas (HQ areas, and the Goblet) and manage 50-60fps in instances. I get more on Windows, but 60fps was the goal and I'm glad I can do that on my full resolution. Dropping down to the next resolution gets me to 50-60 in all areas and 70-90 in instances but it feels weird with the window only taking up 75% of the screen.

I love discovering new background fluff in this game. I was wandering around Mor Dhona a few weeks back and saw this miqo'te girl in arcanist gear looking around and saying "Where has he gotten to now?" and as soon as she turns her back a carbuncle summon pops up and sniffs around a few boxes. I was so amazed I just stood there for like 20 minutes watching the whole thing.

The 15gb is just patches for the game. You have to download similar amounts on fresh windows installs as well.

I wish I could use the mac client, but I can't. My imac is too old for the mac client, but it runs just fine in windows.

My favorite little touch that I've noticed over the past month is when you stop into the Gold Saucer and use the elevator to get to the level with Chocobo Racing and Lords of Verminion. In the center of the circle, there's a Spriggan the size of a minion that continually hops around the statue in the center of the room. If you get close, he notices you and reacts, but runs just out of the player's reach. I get closer, he moves again. And then it just dawns on me that he's gradually leading me to the Lords of Verminion Square. It's such a small but absolutely adorable touch that I can't help but love it.

Seeing that kind of stuff just ooze out of random occurrences adds so much to the overall experience.

Question: is there something warriors do which makes them take WAY more damage? Or something they should do that some don't to reduce damage?

Healing tanks has generally been pretty consistent, but I've had two outliers that just seemed to take insane damage and they were both warriors. I've run The Vault several times now as I try to ding 59 and its generally been fine but the last run last night had a warrior tank who would just take obscene damage. He had ~17k hps and would go from full to half constantly. 3 seconds into the fight: blam super low health. He'd continue taking insane damage throughout and we wiped several times because I went OOM or had trouble keeping everyone else up while throwing everything at him. Had a similar experience a few days ago w/ a warrior that also took insane damage altho that dungeon was easier so I just dealt with it.

Everything else has been a cake walk. Any idea what might be going on?

Warriors get a cooldown that parries all attacks from the front, but causes crit damage from the sides and rear. Maybe they're misusing it? Can't remember what level you get it at though.

You'd be surprised how much overall damage mitigation there is in having up to date gear and making sure the mobs are placed properly so you can parry them.

That said, if he was taking like 9k in the first few seconds from trash he was most likely popping Raw Intuition without Awareness like an idiot on top of having poo poo for gear.

The Vault has a ton of party wide AOE damage during the bosses, especially in the last boss.

I assumed he was mainly talking about the trash packs since those are normally the difficult parts of healing any dungeon run if the tank is pulling a lot.

There's a huge jump in defense from tank armor around lv55 or so, if they skipped out on upgrading their left side that'd mean taking a lot more damage in the later dungeons. i130 Ironworks cuts it less and less for tanks as they do higher level dungeons (assuming they even had that!).

The 15GB is the game download to install after you purchase, I know you have to do it with Windows too, it was just annoying that the store still links to a version that prompts you to uninstall and download a new version as soon as you install it and try to run it.

Overall I'm pleased with the mac client, missing dx11 kinda sucks but being able to stay booted in my preferred OS and have easy access to Messages while I play is great.

I don't know a way to make large amounts of money, but Quick Ventures and Beast Tribe dailies for the IV materia (which have finally crashed but still seem to have a price floor at like 10k) were enough to get me a million in walking-around money if that's all you need.

...and a few more million if you keep grinding them, but it isn't quick by design.

You probably aren't going to like this answer, but gathering. I can easily make one to two million gil in a few hours of gathering if I'm diligent, and I've made as much as four million with half a week's worth of red scrip put into favor items.

Crafting is basically a money black hole until you're on the frontier of it with all 60s and your three specialists (or at least one) geared up, as far as I can tell. That's when the megabucks come in.

That reminds me, probably my biggest annoyance as DRG is the game's positioning code. If you Jump over an AOE zone, you still take its full effect as though you'd just waded through it. That is Dumb and Bullshit, SE. :argh:

One thing you can do with crafting when you get them to 50 that'll make you a bit of scratch is glamour prisms. The Market isn't quite what it used to be since they're now quick synthable and no longer pains in the butt to make in bulk, but it's pretty much a guaranteed market.

Just remember, no matter what, don't sell them at a loss even if other idiots do.

I'm not sure how the market is on other servers, but one thing you can do if the prices are anything like they are on Faerie is sell HQ leveling gear on the market board. It's cheap and easy to make, and HQ gear, especially for crafters, sells for dumb amounts.

Some profitable niches do exist, but the problem is that they're only really profitable because enough others don't realize which items to sell, so people will be reluctant to spread around what they found. I will at least say that there are some items you can make or obtain without being a gatherer that will net you at least 100% profit (even taking crystals into account) at literally any crafter level, especially since you have all of the 50 CC skills and can therefore HQ things relatively easily. Don't forget that crafted dyes, housing items, desynth, demimateria, glamour, and master 1/2 items exist, too

The market experience for me in Excalibur is either:

A: Item that sells pretty often so I price match the lowest seller but sell the item in a different town.

B: Item that doesn't have much supply that I can craft up a few and will sell cause no one else is selling it

If A: 1 gil undercuts and the person moves his item to my city. If B: Suddenly 20 loving people decided they wanted to supply this item that was barely being made an hour ago and not only floods the market but races to the bottom in price drops

Nah. There's a room where a bunch of women are held captive in a jail cell and beg you not to touch them, and a room where a bunch of drunk pirates and fighting each other (the latter is probably what you're thinking of, but there are no women in that room, just surly drunks)
