I think someone at TPCI realized that 1. firepig sucked and that 2. Sha Wujing on fire would have been really stupid and that fire type Xuanzang would have probably been a bit on the nose.

Mega Evos get 100 extra base stat points so they could put a bunch of those in Speed, or give it a Speed boosting ability like Swift Swim or Speed Boost

Worst part of the reveals. Everything else is cool. Might actually try to not look at new pokemon/evolutions this time and blind-pick starters and actually be surprised by stuff. Litten is probably the safest starter choice for that on the one hand though on the other that dumb seal thing can't possibly look worse on evolution so it has that going for it.

edit: wait a minute, didn't somebody do a fake-mon spread of a grass owl, a water seal and a fire cat?

It's probably like the last few gens. Rival picks disadvantage, opposite gender PC picks advantage.

Water
Fire/Fighting

Also Emboar should have been Fire/Dark and Samurott Water/Fighting. Also Serperior could have been like Grass/Dragon.
