Hence the Kuril Islands and etc still being a hot topic in Japan now to this day. But maybe that's revisionist history? I dunno for sure.

It's impossible to say how close Japan actually was to surrender, but it's fairly safe to say that "Well on their way" is a bit of an overestimation-the issue was still incredibly contentious in the Japanese cabinet, with numerous factions still believing they could hold out for a negotiated peace right up until the end. Soviet intervention was going to happen regardless, though. One of the agreements made at Yalta was that the Soviets would enter the war against Japan within 2-3 months of the German surrender, and indeed August Storm was launched 3 months to the day after the official surrender of Germany.

It's also worth pointing out that it's not like the US got to sit in on the Japanese meetings. America expected to have to invade the mainland and expected it to be so horrible and bloody that they made 500,000 Purple Hearts. We still haven't nearly run out of that stock.

Do they even serve pizza with anchovies these days? When I was young everyone told me how lovely they were and so no one ever got one so I never tried them. I'm halfway curious to try it at least once because I just realized my worcestershire sauce has anchovies in it.

Most people despise them. Main reason not to order anchovies is that you pay full price for a topping but only get like 1 tiny fish per slice. It's a ripoff, just add your own. Tiny oily fish are all beautiful.

I have thought of trying Anchovies on my pizza. I think because of TMNT I had a irrational hatred of anchovies until I tried some in my parents salad when I was 11 at a fancy Italian restaurant in Chicago.
