Just to highlight the cruel absurdity of Australia's fear of brown people: the government was sick of being told by the high courts that they had to treat refugees like human beings and not immediately ship them to remote gulags , so in 2013 they excised the entire mainland from the migration zone, meaning that anyone who reaches Australia by boat is immediately flown off to Nauru or Manus Island or some other remote shithole with no right to refugee status, legal advice or anything resembling humane treatment. tl;dr; this poo poo = not Australia according to immigration law

Most of the insane laws and punishments you'll see mentioned in this thread pertain specifically and explicitly to people arriving by boat; people arriving legally or illegally by plane aren't dealt with in the same way because they're mostly white, I guess.

What about the black Africans? I'm too scared to leave my house because they roam the Perth streets. Stop the boats! Seriously though, Iranians/Persians have been here for ages. I remember Farbod from high school in 1990. Also my brother married someone from Iran; persecuted Bahii family that were refugees from there in 1980 and settled here in the 80s. e: gently caress the LNP and the ALP. 2e: Fishing looks good for nauru. The Australian government pretends to send development money, but it goes straight into the pockets of the government. Considering the schools are run down, full of wandering dogs, the bathrooms are below Syrian war-zone levels, and the teachers hit children as positive discipline... i suspect there is some interesting decisions from the Nauruan government where this money ends up: haha, you're hosed if it rains at any time. The entire island floods: Oh but the Nauru municipality is spotless, citizens: A typical Nauruan house, living off the ‘support’ system: Stairs up from the menen into the forest of pinnacles: This is why people don't spend too much time in the surf. The entire island is covered in these sharp pinnacles. they're actually quite beautiful if you step back from the horrendous conditions Nauruans, asylum seekers, and refugees face: This is what surfers get right outside the menen hotel: There isn’t really a social campaign for littering and rubbish collection. Last time I was there they lit the entire rubbish tip on fire (it was an accident!) and basically 100 tonnes of plastic disbursed into the atmosphere. It wasn’t too dramatic because the island is already covered in a phosphate mist of death: The island literally cuts off from the coral base and there is a 200+metre drop into the deep abyss: The pinnacles are everywhere. It is a natural resistance against walking (or escaping the Australian death camps on topside): Everything is imported. Often the (1) crane is down for repairs and they need to bring in some company or contractor to fix it. This leaves the cargo ship at sea sitting there for days if not weeks. It also leaves the island without 1) drinking water, 2) beer, 3) cheese, 4) basic necessities: There is a inner lake, near topside. It is full of dengue and if you went for a swim within I doubt you would come back... at least, never the same: Seriously, who the gently caress buys all these water tubes and where do they use them! Goodbye paradise

White people have an amazing history in turning paradise into a pile of poo poo. A friend told me a sad story of Sri Lanka. West started to import plastic things to their island, but the natives were used to throw thrash anywhere. The pictures he showed me were really disturbing. There is no progress without knowledge.

To further highlight how extreme "The Pacific Solution" is, the Australian government will not allow other countries to offer the people in detention on Nauru asylum. A couple of months ago there was a shitstorm over this when doctors in Australia refused to release from hospital a little girl who had been sent from Nauru to Australia for medical treatment. New Zealand offered to grant the little girl and her mother asylum. The Australian government refused to let that happen because - I poo poo you not - if they became citizens of New Zealand they may attempt to enter Australia at some time in the future (apparently DImmi isn't competent enough to refuse them entry should this ever happen). At times you seriously have to wonder about the level of corruption it's taking to ensure that the companies running our detention centres don't lose that revenue stream.

That appears to be the bustling metropolis of Alice Springs (pop. 28.605, making up >12% of the total population of the Northern Territories to give you an idea of the region as a whole) It appears that it existed originally as "the spot we made camp as we built a telegraph route from the north to the south" which then evolved to "the closest thing to not-barren-desert near this alluvial gold site we discovered" and now appears to be one of those cities that trap their inhabitants in a lifetime of poo poo. Wikipedia posted:Property crime is a significant social issue in Alice Springs, and violent crime in the town in 2010 was at unprecedented levels and "out of control".As a result of resulting high crime rates, mainstream locals now avoid the central part of the town due to fear of violence and property theft. ...And that's just from the main Alice Springs article. This podunk shithole in the middle of the Aussie wasteland is so bad that it has a dedicated Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Alice_Springs quote:The NT Justice Department's Quarterly Crime & Justice Statistics report documented increases across multiple categories of crime in Alice Springs in the 6 years between the 2004-05 and the 2009-10 reporting periods. Recorded cases of assault rose by 87%, sexual assault offences rose by 97%, and house break-ins increased by 64%. Offshore processing is a national stain and we should be given a hard time about it at every turn. Good for the OP and StC for siding with the angels. I'm going to see Gillian Triggs speak tomorrow, probably going to be real depressing. For non-australians, Gillian Triggs is our human rights commissioner. When she published an inquiry that suggested human rights abuses were occurring in detention centres our current government launched a smear campaign against her and threatened her job, despite such inquiries being pretty much the entire point of her position.
