The Samsung VR thing is the best because Samsung heard about this VR trend and immediately held a brainstorming session regarding how they could shoehorn their lovely phones into it "what if we made a headset... that you had to plug a Samsung phone into or it doesn't work?" "BRILLIANT, that's why we hired you Chad"

I have yet to be convinced that VR will be more than a phase, maybe once the technology improves and the hardware doesn't cost as much as buying a computer.

I bet losers in 72 also thought pong was a waste of time with no tangible benefit or future. They were right about the first two though, while y'all are dead wrong. VR is only going to get bigger and lamer.

google cardboard 2.0 is pretty cool and costs like $12. LOL at buying a first gen HMD tho. If in 10 years an HMD with 8k per eye is released I'll buy it day one.

Full disclosure I haven't tried any VR except the Google cardboard on my boss's phone. It's exciting stuff though because I could see myself wasting far too much time playing games if the quality was good

I played that Oculus game where you're a human at dolphin school trying to cheat on their dolphin final exam, and it was ok but I got about all the enjoyment out of it from my 10-minute demo that was really possible to get, and I'm glad I didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for it

I don't see why VR isn't going to be a market, I doubt everyone in America for example will have one, but I doubt it's dead.. It's just not going to be a big or worthwhile thing for maybe a couple generations of the stuff, when a single decent game comes out on it and it doesn't cost much more than a monitor.

OP vid seemed like one of those dumb infomercials about people being incompetent though, I recognized several games they were demoing from other vr demos and in the other demos where they spent more than a 10 second jab on each game the people looked like they were getting immersed and having fun. They do have a good point about some sort of motion peripheral being ideal to truly experience it though, and that's just gonna make it even more cost prohibitive.

VR is definitely the future of personal entertainment, but an expensive goggle that is tethered to a high end gaming PC is not.

If/when the technology gets cheap enough I think the ideal solution would just be having the system be part of whatever motion peripheral (like an omni directional treadmill) so you just buy one big box item and you're done with it.

Give it a couple years for the hardware to improve and for the cost to come down. After the game making tools mature, it would be trivial to simply add VR rendering support to any FPS game. If you want, you can play it on a monitor or just slap some glasses on instead. Overall experience should remain pretty similar.

I played that eve Valkyrie game and that was rad. I think that its cost prohibitive and resource prohibitive right now but once the price comes down and more content is available it'll probably become more prevalent. I don't see there ever being one in every home for a long time, though.
