SpartanIV posted:Kia Souls may be common as gently caress now but they are awesome. I've got a first year 2010 Exclaim and I still love it. Yours looks like a 2012 or 2013 model which I think is the epitome of the external body styles. The 2014+ models look like someone just maxed out all the sliders in a car modeling program. Totaled a 2012 Base , bought a 2013 Plus. I test drove some other hatchbacks but I just didn't enjoy them like the Soul. Plus the sound system is ridiculous. And the 2012's big rear end body and airbags pretty much saved my life, so I guess that helps. Thanks for the recommendation on upgrades. I live in NH so Weathertech is definitely happening. i test drove but ultimately didnt buy a used 2014 soul and i thought it was all around a really nice car with good options and upgrades for the price consumer reports and other sites dont rate it particularly well for reliability though (same for most kias and hyundais, not quite on par with toyota and honda yet)

No idea, but I live in Texas where the ground is either clay, rock, or a combination of both, so I'm not too worried about it.

At least they still have plenty of options available with a manual. I'll probably stick (!) with Mazda for my next car, but manual options are a plus in my book for auto brands. Bought a car. Traded in the '05 Tiburon GT with 125,000 miles on it for a '12 Jetta GLI Autobahn with 24,000 miles on it. Opted for the shiftable automatic (ooooh, paddle-shifters!) and do not regret it. I had my time with a stick-shift and enjoyed it greatly, but with the amount of commuting that I do (and given that the wife can't drive stick), the ability able to drink coffee while driving in stop-and-go traffic is *kisses fingers like a chef* sublime.

iirc manual hasn't been more fuel efficient than automatics in a long while now so the only reasons to get one is either a. cheaper to fix, in which case you should get a better job, or b. can't afford a good semi-auto/dual clutch tranny with paddle shifters to satisfy the need to feel like a race car driver, in which case you should get a better job

I just bought a complete and working bread machine from a thrift shop for $4, and I couldn't be happier. It looks like it went through the standard family routine of "use only once during thanksgiving for 3 consecutive years, then forget about it", so it may as well be new. Anyone have some favorite bread machine recipes? Most of what I'm seeing uses cups rather than grams for measurements, but that's probably a case of google being so smart it's stupid and geo-targeting page results since I'm from a dumb country. My machine is rated for up to 2lbs. I'm not quite sure if they're rounding off, so I've been sticking to 750g loaves rather than 1kg

Flash Gordon Ramsay posted:How do people with manuals text and drive? Seems dangerous. Not justifying texting & driving, but once you're up to speed driving a manual isn't a whole lot different than driving an automatic. Its not like you have to continuously move the shifter around while maintaining the same relative speed - put it in a gear that's best suited to your speed and leave it there until you change speeds or have to stop.

My favorite recipe is to add two squirts of lemon pledge, cut two paper towels in half, and wipe excess pledge off breadmaker. Set kitchen cupboard to ~70°F, insert breadmaker, and let rest for 2-3 years until ready to donate back to goodwill.
