I played a rental for an hour and imeediately returned it to buy it outright. It's real good, and that's on a console. It'll be so much better on PC

Amazing single player, mediocre/poo poo multiplayer, okay but limited map creator (that hopefully receives more attention in the future).

New Cyberdemon goes down pretty easily compared to some of the mean poo poo WAD builders have come up with over the last 20 years. Looking at you Valient. Dropping you into a tiny pit with a Cyberdemon and barely any ammo. Leaving you to probably die of splash damage within 10 seconds.

Maybe they intentionally made it ambiguous whether or not this is the original Marine so that you could fill in the blanks yourself, and to emphasize that the plot doesn't matter. Everybody's headcanon is canon.

Adding my :spergin: to this (I spent like 40 minutes reading every codex point in the game last night but am already forgetting poo poo :v: ) I noticed that the timeline of the expeditions mention like 2158 MTC, which seems to be a different calendar. Also someone a few pages back mentioned they were glad Satan and what not weren't mentioned, but I noticed that the Ages keep being referred to in the codex; namely the "Great Serpent" was actually mentioned in the First Age.

A lot of it seems to mention the First Age, and then this is the hopeful start of the Fourth Age. I don't see Doom 3 really being canon, but last night I was able to see 1, 2, and 64 as origins.

Some things mentioned a couple pages back like the Revenants and perhaps Cyberdemon may contradict it, but I don't know. Doom guy is pissed, and has to rip and tear anyway.

Game is a few hours shy of a week old, and it's the only game I've been wanting to play. Finishing out the codex points last night on my HMP save, I saw that I had killed over 855 imps and 84 mancubi alone. Holy poo poo!

Question: Are there any "normal" codex entries in Hell? I'm apparently missing a couple but when I went to that Sanctum level, I went to the first one that was 'undiscovered' and found it was one of the Slayer Testaments. They de-activate them for the level you're in, I guess, so you can ehar them again, but they don't add to my missing codex' (cause I have them already!), so is there an easy way to tell where to find the entries you're missing?

Yeah, there are normal codex entries in some Hell levels, in the form of the little PDAs from everywhere else. You should be able to tell which ones you already have and which ones you don't from their icon on the map; white is new, orange is already obtained, and the ones you have should stay orange on the map even on a replay.

There's also the 'environment' codex entries, by the way, which in the Hell levels all come from the map stations (you get both at the same time from the map, compared to just the first one on normal levels).

I bust out the chainsaw when there's a shield dude in a corridor I just don't want to deal with. Or a Mancubus/Baron of Hell because they have the best chainsaw kills. :black101:

Yeah there are some normal entries in hell. There aren't many, but I noticed last night that the first codex of a level is the description of the area in general, and the second is like a pamphlet or something. I think if you hover over the missing codex parts it gives you a vague idea where to find it. I was missing two, from the ARC and the area after and both said "unlock this by finding the automap"

But yeah, hell has some regular pda style entries!

Like I said, the Slayer Testaments show up as 'ungotten' when I replay the hell levels, even though I already have them.

Edit: Oh yeah, if you highlight what's missing it tells you what level they're in! I guess i am going to have to replay the Sanctum level. :sigh:/:toot:

Agh I can't get this game to play nice with my g-sync monitor. No matter what I do the frame rate is capped at 60fps. It looks amazing at 1440p60 with ultra settings, but I know it can look better. I accepted 60fps while I was busy playing through the campaign but now that I'm done I'm playing around with trying to get it to run at 144hz and its killing me that it isn't working.

My exact same rig works perfectly if I boot CS:GO or Battlefront and goes 100-144 frames automatically, but I pop into Doom and its stuck at 60 no matter what settings I change :argh:

I think its stuck in borderless fullscreen because changing it between that and fullscreen makes no difference, and if its windowed then g-sync is capped at 60. But for the life of me I can't find out how to actually get it to go proper exclusive fullscreen. Probably loving Windows' fault.

Yeah anytime I see two Barons I just instantly whip out the chainsaw and hack one of them to pieces; it feel so good to kill them instantly like that and the animation is really brutal.

Then I shoot the other one down since he's just by himself.

I also must say that for people wondering about monster infighting, it does happen and sometimes looks scripted. But,what I've seen happen more often is total decimation of lower tier demons and possessed getting hit during the chaise. Often a hell knight or especially pinky charging through 3-4 enemies and obliterating them in the process. Sometimes you will see an imp just get pissed and start slinging fire at an ally, but they never last long anyway. It is glorious.

It wasn't immediately obvious to me, but throwing on fully upgraded runes that boost GK speed, boost GK range, and give you a speed boost after a GK, make you practically teleport fist first into every monster around the room faster than Far Cry chain kills. God dammit, possessed soldiers are no joke on ultra nightmare - sometimes you're doing your usual roller coaster thing and they just happened to shoot their giant plasma ball and you eat like 90 points of damage

Got to the third stage...it definitely gets easier as you get more weapons but I bought it trying to get some loving power up on a ledge that looks like you can get to it easily but can't

Yeah me too. I bought the x34 for Doom (I wanted a new monitor anyway Doom seemed like the right reason). That's 3440x1440@100Hz with GSync but in Doom it'll never go above 60 frames. I don't know what people are talking about with higher frame rates, I thought it was pegged at 60. With GSync your monitor's refresh equals your framerate, changing dynamically, so at 60 frames (which it doesn't move from; 980GTX, 16GB RAM, Samsung PRO SSD and 4790K OCed to 4.4GHz per core) it's butter.. but I'm sure my rig would happily pull a hundred frames if the game would let it.

I wonder if people without GSync think they're getting more frames for whatever reporting reason but they're actually not.

I've never been good at twitchy, fast shooters, I've felt, and that's an impression I've fostered through more than a decade of middling K/D in any multiplayer FPS, but now I feel like I'm actually doing it. I can clear an area like a loving ninja and while luck very often plays a role, I also realize that I'm getting really good at this game. Oh my god this game is so good.

I've put two points in health, no points in armor and the rest in ammo so far, and those upgrades actually feel like they matter so god drat much.
