evilcat posted:Is an Ergodox really as good as I hear pretty much every user claim? I'd love one just for being a funky keyboard, but that MSRP of them is giving me a lot of doubts. If they're $500 good, what about the cheaper options? Would it be worth jumping on an Ergodox, or maybe waiting for an Ultimate hacking keyboard or keyboardio, or just sticking with a regular layout mechanical? the infinity is like 240 USD with switches from assdrop, which puts it in the expensive but not prohibitively so category. the keycaps you get come completely unlabeled and without a dome or dit to mark fj (or dk if youre an appler) so there's that, but otherwise most keys are where you think they are and it's comfortable to type on even though it won't be as fast while you learn where the special keys are it also supports layering so that you can have, like, a numpad on layer 2 that gets activated when you press a button and then drop back to normal boardin when youre done, and the infinity supports graphical layer feedback via the lcds

Layering seems like a nice enough feature, especially if it's mostly the same layout I'm already used to. I'll wait for the other split ones to drop later this year like their website say they will, might as well check the alternatives before dropping the money on a luxury keyboard. At least for the price you seem to get a lot more with the Ergodox than the various Bloody options.

just buy a kinesis advantage you giant nerds ergodox clones it but poorly. the bowls are the best part of the design, and ergodox drops that.

in what world is it desirable to to bind modifier keys to characters? like, press shift + 9-0 like a normal non lazy person, god drat... assuming you're going to bind shortcuts you could look into a wide variety of programmable boars, do you have a preference for full size, tkl, etc?

Power Ambient posted:agreed. besides aeron what are the best office chairs to type on a sick rear end keyb? I've had the Aeron recommended along with the Steelcase Gesture and ekornes stressless consul, which the guy who had the latter had the most comfy looking desk setup I have ever seen. The Aeron is nice, but a knock-off isn't worth it if you like the chair. Their store wants about $600-700 for the chair, depending on a sale, but they have a 12 year warranty on it. Some of the fabrics have only five years instead of 12, but since a cheap office chair is $100-200 and lasts a couple years, three times the cost for six times the life, and after that you can still buy the parts and fix it yourself. I believe Costco sells some of their chairs, so if you have a membership or a friend with one, you may be able to get in and check them out.

also if you live in an urban area you probably have a used office furniture store nearby, my partner picked up a Leap in good shape for about $100 from National Office Interiors and Liquidators just outside of the Chicago Loop. they'll also usually throw in a 90 day warranty as well

NO you are not BUT unless the key caps you are getting are translucent there is little benefit in gettin the CODE over the WASD because all the CODE offers is backlighting and you wont be able to use it
