Between 1972 and 1991, Burge and his men forced confessions out of more than 200 people by torturing them with suffocation, beatings, and genital electrocution. After costing the city over $100 million in legal fees and settlements, Burge continues to receive a $4,000 monthly pension from the city. bonus: Former Chicago homicide detective and Guantanamo Bay interrogator, Richard Zuley, faced multiple lawsuits alleging he coerced confessions, threatened suspects’ family members, planted evidence, and committed torture. After retiring from the department, Zuley was placed in charge of the interrogation of Guantanamo detainee, Mohammedou Ould Slahi. According to Slahi’s testimony, Zuley tortured him, subjected him to mock executions, and threatened to bring Slahi’s mother to Guantanamo to rape her.

According to police documents, at least 11 people observed by investigators for the Recording Industry Association of America selling bootleg CDs and DVDs (including Jay Z albums and Marvel’s Iron Man movie) were “taken to Homan Square for processing”. A woman was “transported to Homan Square for processing” after police observing a fencing location for stolen goods found her with “2 cans of Tasters Choice decaffeinated coffee with Walgreens anti-theft stickers”. “Very frequently”, someone arrested at Homan Square will not be subsequently charged with a crime, said Kilroy, the senior narcotics officer, adding: “They convert into a cooperating individual.” loll

I remember reading an article about a Chicago woman found dead tied up to a chair and showing signs of torture but it wasn't classified as a "murder" because police weren't sure what happened. All these aggregate stats measuring variables with millions of people involved have issues...especially ones that are intertwined with R vs. D politics. There's also the gigantic problem that statistics are measured in different ways in different cities (and across years/decades). It's even worse and more divergent when looking at stats from other parts of the world. And that's not even getting into the dumb human errors people make with numbers (excel spreadsheet errors etc.)

The cops will escort white people back to the freeway since they either genuinely got lost in a bad neighborhood or are only there to buy drugs.
