Make sure you use a 12 watt charger.

Yeah, if you're charging the Pro on an iPhone adapter, or God help you a non powered USB port it's going to be slow as gently caress. If anyone has the 12 inch Macbook and an iPad Pro you can pick up a USB-C lightning cable and use the Macbook power brick to cut the 12 Volt charging time in half.

I still have a stout little iPad 2 and its chugging along. Should I go with an iPad Air 2, smaller iPad Pro, or wait for an iPad Air 3?

Seriously though this 2 just won't die...

It hasn't, yet.

The iPad lineup is kind of a mess right now.

It basically goes in order of price and relative capabilities:

4. new iPad 9.7" (pro)
5. iPad Pro

That's crazy.

There's something that I kinda don't understand at all. There are a bunch of ebay listings for new or refurbished 12.9" iPad Pros with cellular (so at least 128GB) on ebay for around $800 with free shipping. After taxes on buying one through Apple at 32GB without cellular, it'd be more expensive than one of these. Am I missing something major?

Not necessarily, but I might wait for new stock or refurbs to go on sale from maybe a more reputable seller.

Unlike pretty much everything else that Apple makes, the 12" Pro goes on sale pretty regularly through most retailers. Whether that's a testament to poor market performance or to a new retail strategy sanctioned by Apple due to the price point is anyone's guess.

Actually, if you follow any of the deals sites like 9to5toys, pretty much all of Apple's poo poo goes on sale from small regional websites or sellers on eBay all the time. I already saw sales for the 2016 MacBook for $100 off and AppleCare+ from like Appleinsider. If you can find a good deal on the big pro, jump on it.

It's hard to say honestly. I just checked the Mac Rumors buying guide and they don't even list the Air line anymore. The Air 2 is still a solid device if you are getting a good deal on it. I'm not sure I'd pay full price for it though if you are getting a great deal then buy it but if not then maybe wait if you can or get the Pro 9.7.

This. If it suits your needs, and the price is right, then it really doesn't matter if something else cooler comes along.

Yes. Best case, it gets a replacement and the Air 2 drops in price. Worst case, no change and you wait another two weeks.

This.

Personally, the Air 2 is getting a bit long in the tooth I'd wait a bit and see if anything is announced, or get a 9.7 Pro.

Also, WWDC is usually just software announcements.

This. On rare occasions they've announced physical products and updates at WWDC but I wouldn't bet money on it. Also, for all that anything's possible with Apple, they tend to hew pretty closely to their announcement/release schedule.

MacBooks will probably get their own event later in the summer, with the iMac maybe/maybe not involved (if not, then it'll probably see a Fall update). The iPhone/Watch will probably have an event in September/October and the iPad will get its own thing in November, if it gets one this year at all.

Mac Pro/Mini and iPod are anyone's guess.

The Pro has been on sale at like Target and Best Buy though. I got a 128GB 13" for $807 from Target right after the 9.7" announcement. This isn't normal for Apple products. Not that I'm complaining.

tfw you're peeing next to someone in the lineup and they don't know
There is a very compelling argument to be made that Apple is near its theoretical maximum market penetration given its current insanely high levels of profit and high cost of devices, especially as the middle class continues to disintegrate in key markets like the USA.

Therefore it is reasonable that Apple will try to reduce its margins, in an effort to drive more sales. They probably don't want to do anything like that overtly, yet at least, so they are introducing channel discounts and seeing what happens. Probing the waters.

None of the stuff that Apple has been doing in its channels make sense (including a flat reduction on the price of the Apple Watch) unless you take this viewpoint into account.

If any of you folks are upgrading to an iPad Pro soon and want to get rid of your older version, let me know.

I was using a Mini 1 for basically just comics, but my friend asked for it back so they could do the same thing once I showed how awesome it was for doing just that. Oops!

I'm looking for anything better than an ipad1, as someone donated one to me and trying to get anything to work on ios 5.1.1 is a super pain.

Here's why I'm looking to get one:

- Reading (books and comics)
- Board games
- Play old GTA games with a controller (the PC versions have terrible controller support)
- Lay on the couch like a lazy piece of poo poo and watch Netflix/surf the internet without the awkwardness of a full-size laptop

I use mine in bed to read comic books and watch youtube videos and plex sometimes. That's it. I use a laptop for web browsing, and my phone for really casual stuff. I'm considering getting rid of my cellular Air 2 and just using my wife's 4th gen iPad because it can handle what I do with an iPad just as well as my Air 2 and she never uses it.

I use mine for:

-Work: I own a tutoring business and spend 4-5 days a week almost entirely on the road and keeping weird hours. I use the iPad as a teaching tool (drawing/notation apps, playing YouTube videos, etc) and "mobile office" (scheduling/PayPal/emails) pretty regularly.

-Forums and web browsing: My work schedule leaves me with pockets of free time throughout the day, often away from home and frequently by surprise. The iPad's nice for reading and posting to various forums and general web surfing, if I find myself having to kill an hour at Panera between clients or something.

-School: I'm also in grad school and I really like OneNote. I think it would be a lot more useful to me on the iPad with better stylus support, which is why I'm thinking of picking up a Pro sometime in maybe the Fall.

-Games: I've cycled through popular iOS games on my own iPad but we basically treat my girlfriend's as our digital tabletop/strategy/board game cabinet. If you like stuff like Forbidden Island, Pandemic, or even Scrabble there are solid iPad versions out there.

-Music: iOS, and the iPad specifically, has become a thriving ecosystem for music production software. Everything from softsynths to drum machines to effects and recording suites. There are threads in NMD if you're curious.

-Porn: Oleophobic coating on the glass.

Videos - YouTube, home Plex streaming, Netflix

Cooking - Getting a dock and Paprika makes any iPad an awesome cookbook.

Gaming - I still have an iPad 3rd gen which is okay for games but it's getting long in the tooth. Still a perfect size for gaming of any kind.

Web browsing/Feed reading - I actually don't like the full size iPad for reading books (the mini is the perfect size for that activity) but I'll still read my news feed all day on an iPad.
