Anyone getting intermittent slowdown and audio glitches in dwarf tactical battles specifically? I didn't have this issue until the dwarf campaign.

Loving this game so far. My dwarf campaign is 70 turns in or so and I'm just wrapping up the orks to the south. Border princes + Empire are my buds, and the closest dwarves to the north of me are keeping the vcs occupied while I haven't declared war yet. My only flaw is that I've hosed up my main settlement chains and haven't reached slayers yet even, let alone cannons. Strictly giant stacks of quarrellers and miners because I'm cheap.

In spite of my best efforts, I just can't seem to command the Empire consistently well. I seem to get bogged down extremely quickly and certain units just have my number, like chaos chariots or chaos hounds. Seem to have the most problems with chaos,. Orcs and dwarfs are usually manageable enough, and i normally can maneuver around them to pepper their backsides with gunfire. Same with dwarfs. VCs, if I'm not getting caught up on fodder units, I usually can counter pretty well also. I'm not sure if I have too much melee infantry, not enough cav, or what, but Chaos really is a thorn in my side at the moment. I do sort of like the fact, though, that it's more complicated to counter armies in this one than previous entries. I never had these sorts of issues in Shogun 2, or really any of the subsequent games. I'm thinking I probably need more ranged and better usage of heroes/mages. And , generally speaking, the only times I've had economy issues are after confederating.

Ra Ra Rasputin posted:This is a good post, by the time I realized I could use some allies and trading partners as the undead everyone already hated my guts and I had to fight on 3 fronts trying to catch marching raiders in my land. Vassalization typically requires reducing them to one settlement and destroying all their armies, yeah. Possibly also sacking the settlement first. Also, I just discovered the most hilarious thing. If you manage to critically assassinate the leader of a Chaos warband the entire warband instantly disbands. What's more, they respawn regularly up north in the Chaos Wastes. So you can sit a bunch of banshee's up there and just power level them into murder machines. Kislev loves me now because they withstood like six stacks of chaos and tribe warriors due to me making half of them disappear in one turn. It also might explain why so many agents get ridiculous in the late game. It's also helpful since the constant waves of chaos assaults inevitably end up decimating the north. And Chaos and the tribes seem to enjoy loving up the counts once they get done with everyone north of you. I have a bunch of agents up north just sewing havoc at the moment and the tribes don't know what the gently caress. Edit: Also I had no idea about this but if you're near famous battle sites as the Vampire Counts you can use raise dead to get some really nice units real quick. I've got crypt ghouls and black knights on the one i'm looking at right now. Along with a lot of basic units. Archonex fucked around with this message at 04:40 on May 28, 2016 |

I think it's incredibly stupid the awakened northmen tribes don't start as vassals and are instead military alliances when you play as Chaos, because else you have to murder them anyway for your victory conditions.

Fire Barrel posted:What do people recommend for Empire artillery? I seem to have the best luck with mortors, but against chaos or large greenskin stacks, I think I need something to help out my infantry. Might also try blending more cav into the mix as well. Well, short summary for em all: Mortar: Basic anti-crowd. Good vs masses of lightly armored targets. Greatcannon: Anti-monster/character sniper, also useful vs cavalry. Kinda eh vs big infanry blobs though. Helfire Rockets: Like mortars, but overall better. Less accurrate, but way more shots flying at the target. Fucks with blobs something fierce. Hilarious if you cna get the +AP damage banner. Helblaster Volley Gun: Kinda underwhelming from what I've seen them do. they can do some nice damage, but not reliably and the range is underwhelming. Luminark of Hysh: A loving magical sniper cannon. On ultra-size units, I've seen it one-shot single Chaos Trolls. Pinpoint accurate, but limited range and slow RoF. Mounted on a heightened plattform, so it can reliably fire over your infantry even on flat ground. Also gives all units near it a damage resistance bonus. Good for parking right behind your main line and sniping out high-value targets while shielding the troops. Steam Tank: A single, slightly buffed Greatcannon. Also, a stema cannon that can do some neat damage up close and it's all inside a superheavy chariot/monster that will stomp most infantry and cavalry in melee. Overall, if you can afford to get rockets, mortars are redundant. Cannons end to be a mainstay for most of the campaign and even by the end remain in second-line armies - cannonball to the face is how the Empire deals with big nasties and enemy champions. Crossbows and Handgunners plus one rocket battery can thin out swarms well enough and cannonfire is great at countering monsters and characters. I kinda gave up on Helblasters, but the Luminark is actually pretty rad and Steam Tanks are borderline OP. Magni fucked around with this message at 05:40 on May 28, 2016 |

Hahaha playing as the Empire is glorious, since getting decent artillery units I've only needed the melee lads to stand around and look hard, the arty tears things apart on the way up, then my gunners and crossbowmen subject the poor sods to further withering fire, and I can smash the cavalry or Karl Franz on his Pegasus (gets Deathclaw next level ) into anyone who actually gets through that. And now I can build steam tanks so guess where the entire Imperial treasury is about to go.

I kinda hope they aren't going to exclusively just add the armies that had army books based on that quote from way back. Though that just says that if a race had an army book in 7th or 8th edition then it will be added to the game eventually, didn't say anything about those that didn't or never had army books NOT getting added. Call me boring but I really want to see the non-Empire and non-Bretonnia human factions be fleshed out. The game would feel much more alive if Kislev, the Border Princes, Tilea and Estalia weren't just clones of the Empire factions as goes their heroes, lords and unit roster. What's more most of those human factions don't really need any new mechanics (or atleast not ones that are very different from those uesed by the Empire and Bretonnia), though unique city models would be cool and neat, and adding them would be much less complicated than adding the Skaven or Wood Elves. Outside of Kislev and maybe Tilea (where you can find some info in the Dogs of War lists going back) CA would probably have to make up their own units, lords, heroes and legendary lords, but that shouldn't be so much work I don't think, them still being only human. I could totally see and really hope we get a few race DLCs for the human factions between this and the first major expansion (which should bring a new campaign as I understand it), Kislev as a DLC race, the Border Princes as another (breaking them up into several smaller ones preferably) perhaps together with Tilea, and Estalia as the third would make sense. Would be nice to inflate those southern realms geopraphically a bit as well, Estalia and Tilea probably should be larger and not just one province (though that might a bit much to ask of a race DLC, but maybe doable since it would be sufficient, I think, to just inflate them and add more settlements, making both 2-4 provinces instead). e: Oh and the Norscans too, would be cool if they were a bit more distinct than just lower tier Chaos Warrior units (I also really hate fighting armies that are half warhounds and marauder horsemen!). e2: Tileans having a Dogs of War type mechanic would also be cool, either a simple one where another faction can enter a special diplomatic treaty with a Tilean faction which allows the hiring faction to recruit Tilean mercenaries from their capital (who are disbanded when the deal ends) with the Tilean faction receiving an income boost. Or a more complicated one say you can designate an army to be hired as Dogs of War by another faction, if it does so it teleports to one of their lords and acts and moves as a Greenskin Waagh army that can be order around but not controlled directly, the Tilean faction receives any loot the Dogs of War army obtains as well as the income boost from the simpler option. If the Tileans are player controlled they can also control this army in battle themselves, allowing Tilean players to stay out of fighting war directly but still fight on the battlefield. Ofcourse you can break your contract and even sign on with an enemy of the faction you were fighting for, if ending the contract you can either teleport directly back to your capital (taking 1 or 2 turns maybe) or have the army stay where it is (possibly looting and pillaging gloriously on their march home). e3: ^^ Or perhaps rather than that have mercenary company horde factions that use the second mechanic described above, who when not on contract, can travel the land and recruit different types of soldiers depending on which region or province they find themselves in. So you get a true Dogs of War army. Randarkman fucked around with this message at 07:10 on May 28, 2016 |

frajaq posted:Wait whats the tip, is it just starting another horde as fast as you can or something else? Yeah literally the first thing you do is recruit a second lord. Once that's done go sack then awaken the first town with your starting hero while you build an army with your second. I move the second close to the awoken city to protect him from the Ruskies until he gets a decent army. From there it's a bit hit or miss, you have to keep both armies alive while clearing the 4-5 armies that are out to kill you those first few turns, but as soon as you get 1 full stack and one 3/4 stack you're pretty much on the road to winning. From there just sack and raze the entire penninsula and GG. I pretty much moved on when I had 3 armies, 100k in gold and didn't feel like killing off my vassals. This was on VH. The only problem I have is my awoken tribes keep killing each other. JacksLibido fucked around with this message at 06:28 on May 28, 2016 |
