google robotics has been a disaster since rubin left. he bought all these companies with no cohesive vision and then left the company, leaving them with no leadership that could justify what they're doing. all of the senior leaders in the robot companies could see the end of the tracks coming up so they all bailed out. after some months google realized these guys were burning money on research with no chance to ever get returns in it, so they decided to impose a product plan. unsurprisingly, a bunch of academics who just do research didn't take well to actually having to ship something, and with no competent leadership to direct them towards real products they just ignored Google and continued doing whatever they felt like. basically Google bought a bunch of companies that are not doing anything except burning money and they don't know how to manage them. they are toxic assets now and Google will take a bath in selling them. meanwhile they nearly destroyed the American robotics industry doing this.

This really confuses the gently caress out of me. The level that Boston dynamics works at is not loving consumer level at all. It was military and industrial. They should have been looking at those applications from the very beginning. Also any sources on the loving "road map" that rubin was suppose to leave them. Also if they loving own the american robotics industry just create position and hire someone that knows how to manage them and just write off the dumpster fire of money or play the long game. Here is a fun story about sonys trinitron tvs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinitron#Trinitron Basically RCA owned a licensed a method for doing color tv but it was rather dim. Sony in the 1960's went to a trade show saw an amerian lab that had something. The lab was underfunded and just spinning its wheels they bought the lab and patients improved it, came up with a novel solution to make a better product. The result was they got a good 20 year patient on the thing. It just shocks me that google pulls this poo poo. Just loving write off the R&D and commint to a five, ten, 15 year plan and see what you get.
