Well, aside from the '80s glam rock/hair metal/shock rock frenzy I've been on for the past twelve months (most recently heard Kix. Some of their songs like Blow My Fuse and Cold Blood are just soo good) I recently stumbled upon a metal band that I really like: Demon. I like the song Into the Nightmare the most, but they do have some other good ones like Life on the Wire. Now, this basically brings my list of metal bands that I enjoy and listen to regularly/semi-regularly up to three: Dio, Demon and Saxon.
So what I'm wondering is, are there any similar bands that people here could recommend me? I've spoken to some of my RL friends who like metal, but for the most part they like either incredibly loud+rapid metal music, or incomprehensible screamo metal - neither of which appeal to me, really.

WASP for the shock rock stuff.
If you like Dio and Saxon maybe try:
Rainbow (also with Dio)
Judas Priest
Angel Witch
Raven

Also try to avoid using the term "screamo metal."

So yeah, needless to say, I don't listen to their musical advice so much anymore. :D But yeah, so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Hell, not necessarily just for metal, either - if anyone happens to think of some '80s rock bands that I might like listening to (main ones from memory being Def Leppard, Queen, Poison, Fastway, as well as some Europe, Twisted Sister, Night Ranger, Great White, Queensryche and Ratt. Likely missing quite a few though)
If you like Dio, give Astral Doors a try. Straight-up traditional heavy metal and the vocalist sounds pretty much as close to Dio as is possible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjHjYixBaOo

The Night Flight Orchestra are some awesome oldtimey sounding party hard rock.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqBvemj16WE

And since you mentioned Europe, I feel obligated to point out that most of their post-reunion material blows their 80s stuff out of the water. War of Kings from last year is honestly, no hyperbole, one of the best hard rock albums I've ever heard. They don't do the 80s sound anymore though, they reach more into the 70s blues rock style of Deep Purple etc. It's glorious.

I've been listening to this Tupac song on repeat for the last couple of months.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VL2ZkK7rSI

I must have listened to it literally tens of thousands of times by this point.

I love the beat, the rhythm of the lyrics, and the lyrics themselves. I would love to find something similar, but I haven't yet found a song I like more than this one.

I went more with lyrics than sound, but hopefully you find something in them.

2. Frank Zappa (Freak Out!, We're Only In It For The Money), King Missile, The Residents (Third Reich and Roll, Duck Stab, Commercial Album);

hex enduction hour, grotesque (after the gramme), this nation's saving grace, live at the witch trials, slates, fall in a hole, perverted by language, bend sinister.... i dunno i could go on but those are my favorites of their incredibly fertile 70s/80s.. early 90s are good too but i think they start getting spotty around the middle of the decade through to the 00s but they get back to being good with the real new fall lp.. (then again good/bad with the fall is sort of an arbitrary distinction, the old "always different, always the same" john peel aphorism or w/e) i haven't listened to the last few since ersatz gb but i'm sure they're fine

there was a comp released in the early 00s called 50000 fall fans can't be wrong that was a lot of peoples entry point back then and is a pretty well curated selection of material if you don't feel like wading through a bunch of these albums.

Maybe this is too obvious but any Motown singles collection/compilation will have plenty of this. Pretty much every decade will have something you'll like so something that goes up through the 80's might be good

Yeah, it's just daunting to come at Motown (or soul in general) without much prior exposure because there is just so much of it, so I was hoping someone would just pitch their favourites at me, but I probably can't go wrong by just finding a fairly large singles compilation

Ah ok, well I like this collection because it has a pretty good cross section of artists on Motown up to the 80s and includes a fair few tracks that weren't as big singles as something like "My Girl".

It sounds to me like you're looking for some northern soul. What are some good synth-pop or synth-rock songs like "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)" by Talking Heads? Or something like "Rip It Up" by Orange Juice, "Making Plans for Nigel" by XTC?

I'm open to any era, but I'm also interested in any new bands/songs that have this sound.

Down came the glitches and burned us in ditches and we slept after eating our dead.
I'd like some recommendations for... I'm not sure how to describe. Songs that tell stories? Especially ones with some sort of emotional impact.

Like, as an example (the first thing that pops into me head) there's Some Kind of Hero, I'm not looking specifically for songs in that genre or with that subject matter, but just the sort of 'story as a song' thing in that style? Like, it's better as a song but you could totally just read it as a story and it would totally work.

It would also be nice to know if there's a name for that sort of thing to make this question easier in the future, hah.

I know it's probably something stupid I should already know but I've got no idea.

The Hold Steady tell mini stories in a bigger narrative framework, I'd start with Boys and Girls in America as the most accessible. A ton of Mountain Goats songs are also narrative, with All Hail West Texas telling a bigger story. It probably goes without saying a ton of rap music is narrative, definitely Kendrick Lamar.

This is a pretty big tradition in folk music.

A lot of Bob Dylan songs work for this, especially during his political era and his early 70's output.
Hurricane, Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again and "Went to See The Gypsy" are good examples, but you can pick anything from "Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" all the way to "Desire" and find gold.

The Band is also fantastic for this: The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, When I Paint My Masterpiece, The Weight, Acadian Driftwood

Paul Simon: Gumboots, Graceland (do yourself a favor and listen to that whole album), Still Crazy After All These Years

Pretty much every single The Mountain Goats song: Jenny

The Fruit Bats: Singing Joy To The World

To go into "Rock" or other genres:

Tom Waits is great for this as well: Shore Leave, Ol' 55

Leonard Cohen: So Long, Marianne, Memories

Randy Newman writes stories with unreliable narrators: Last Night I Had A Dream, Old Man

They Might Be Giants also do unreliable narrators, in a much weirder way: Museum of Idiots, Kiss Me, Son of God, Dead

How about some funnies? Flight of the Conchords were great at this before they became HBO stars: Jenny, Bus Driver's Song,
