So I really like Winston, but I'm so bad at utilizing his ult. Punching people 18 feet is handy but due to it's melee range it can still be quite awkward trying to clear people off a point or cart, even if I've generally succeeded at it by virtue of pubbies dropping everything to chase me around like Scooby Doo. It was also super satisfying to see a card for shield damage absorbed on a team with a straight up good murder machine Zarya (their Potg involved lasering Phara out of the Sky with pinpoint accuracy). Can his shield block, or at least mitigate a High Noon? It came to mind after I managed to fry a McRee to death while he was lining up his ult, about how funny it would be if dropping a bubble over him would have ruined it. But, probably wouldn't have helped. I do get reminded just how much a good reaper loving HURTS playing him though. Fortunately, most of them will gently caress off at half health in ghost mode. By comparison in shotgun land, it seems to take a LOT of effort for a Diva to kill me before I fry them and their pilot unless they open up on me first  To be fair I'm utilizing my shields when this happens, but still, Dva is the only tank I figure "Yeah, I can probably kill that myself" as Winston.But the real shitshows are all the Pharas I manage to barely tickle to death while they are flying. "Come on, almost. Almost... *leaps vertically* YES! Isn't Winston's ult basically a "Get off my lawn" CC sort of thing? If you're only knocking a few people away from the point but also scare off the entire rest of the team, you've done a good job and your team should capitalize on that. The other tank ults (Roadhog and D.Va, really) are all about clearing the point, with dealing damage/killing fools secondary. Also how does Winston's shield actually work? I haven't played him at all, but every time one of them jumps towards me and drops a shield, my reaction is to just... walk inside the shield and keep shooting. I usually end up killing Winston unless he runs away. Or if I'm far away, I'll shoot the shield a couple times and it'll go down, and then I'll start to shooting him instead.

It's basically a fixed (weaker) Rein shield for him/his teammates to use as cover, whether inside or outside of it.

Ok, I've fumbled around in pub quick matches to get used to various things enough. Name added to the spreadsheet and I'm usually on after 8pm MST most nights. Initially I planned on maining Mercy, but if anything the game teaches quickly: adapt. I don't main anyone anymore... but I do find myself playing a shitload of Rein (cap, escort), Winston (cap, defense), Junkrat (everywhere) to get stuff done when the pub army of soloists refuse to work the map.

Winston's ult is also technically a huge heal since it sets you to 1000 health. So you can can from 1hp to 1000 and that's pretty rad. The shield is like Reinhardt's and just blocks everything until it takes a certain amount of damage. If the Winston is an enemy, your shots from the outside can't go in, and your shots inside can't go out, but you can move through it freely. Teammates shoot and pass through it like normal. The damage absorption on it is pretty low, but it's a bit more versatile in how you can use it than Reinhardt's is. The generator itself is a physical object, so you can drop it and trap enemies mid-leap, keep it mobile on the payload, etc.

You cannot destroy the generator, no. The only way to make the barrier disappear prematurely is to deplete its 600 HP.

I feel like a substantial number of people don't know that you can shoot through allied shields. Many of the times I run Reinhardt and my teammates will duck in and out of my shield or strafe to the side of it to take pot shots at the enemy sniper/turret and get railed.

As for Reinhard, and I don't know if there is a way to fix it, it always bugged me that you could start the swing facing one direction, and rotate in a circle and essentially have a full hammer swing for 360 degrees. I just do that and everyone around me dies because I guess momentum isn't a thing.

Less sniping and more just chunking arrows in the general vicinity of the payload and getting kills and ragetells in return as I pin corpses to the terrain. I should probably actually try out Hanzo because of that...but it's hard not to just play someone else when someone else is already Mr. Ronin and/or there's a Widowmaker on the team. Also I far prefer Mei for her ability to just control the map with her walls and waste 3 second of the enemy team's time by becoming immortal on the point.
