I remember watching When We Were Kings, and even in spite of knowing that Ali won the fight, I carefully considered all the factors and came to the conclusion there was a 135% chance that Foreman would win (that dude was loving terrifying in his prime). Watching Ali knock him down, pull back his fist for another punch and then stop because he knew Foreman was done and he'd won is still one of the greatest boxing moments I've ever seen.

Ali's strategy of "I'm going to let this guy that punches with the power of a vengeful god beat me up for half a dozen rounds until he gets tuckered out and not die in the process" was incredulously ballsy in its conception and perfect in execution. When Foreman beat Frazier, the latter was the greatest boxer of all times at the absolute highest level of his powers, and Foreman dismantled him. Foreman was scary as gently caress.

I've always felt a measure of pity for the likes of Frazier and Foreman because they were probably two of the best boxers the world has ever seen and yet had the great misfortune (and for us, fortune) of being around at the same time as Ali. Most people nowadays know Foreman as a big cuddly teddybear of a man, but the guy was a scary motherfucker in his prime. My favorite line from Foreman is when he was looking back at his prime years and the fight against Ali, and he talks about how the loss changed him for the better - "I look back and I don't recognize the guy I was..... but I sure do like spending his money! "

George Foreman seemed the type of boxer that would eventually kill someone in the ring if he kept at it. I'm sort of happy Ali humbled him and he eventually had that near-death experience. Not that that should have happened to him, but more I'm sure it helped him become the better man he is today. Also, don't know if this counts for this thread, but other wrestlers are reacting to it, so: https://twitter.com/arielhelwani/status/739247915676368896 But just in case, here's Zandig: AMReese fucked around with this message at 03:30 on Jun 5, 2016 |

Ryback's known for trolling so it's probably to make people think he'll be in LU but he'll show up in TNA or something. For a style that's primarily focused on juniors, LU already has its quota of hosses, all of whom are very good.

Even with that factored in, it was still impossible for Ali to win! Everybody go rewatch the Rumble in the Jungle (and When We Were Kings too) because goddamn that may still be the greatest boxing match the world has ever seen. Maybe the Thriller in Manilla comes close.
