BlitzBlast posted:Sevens is a harem romance. It does some neat things with the concept, but it is still a harem romance. JP harems are the weirdest loving thing. The protagonist is always 'reluctant' to add to the harem, but ends up doing so at the drop of a hat. I'm not sure if it'd make more sense to me if the MC was a rampant horndog with the self-control of a rabid wolverine and the confidence to go with it, but just once I'd like to read about a JP MC that makes poo poo happen, instead of being someone poo poo happens to, in a harem setting. It seems like a cultural hangup in that actively pursuing a harem would make it not okay, but if you are sort of half hearted about it , it's okay.

i remember reading the zombie one without realizing it was porn until it became clear the mc was gonna rape a zombie. i guess either i didnt read the tags on novelupdates or else they werent complete when i read it. i read a few chapters of the manga for the maou one until i figured out that it was an extended rape fantasy. i just now read the tags for the gladiator one, but oddly enough rape wasn't included. thats a strange exception, but based on the lolicon tag im assuming it still has pedophilia. so, that explains why people translate those at least. erotic fiction in their native language evidently wasnt gross enough.

Konosuba is pretty much entirely about Kazuma doing something, and it coming back to bite him in the rear end somehow. This is a quote from the most recent volume: quote:“I’m telling the truth. Ask Darkness ‘Did you visit Kazuma’s room late at night and suddenly kiss him?’ if you don’t believe me. But man, what’s going on here? Earlier, Megumin also told me she liked me, and today she said that the two of us should go back home together after the fireworks show— Though she totally ruined that. Big Boss, what should I do? I might take my first step into adulthood this festival.” Konosuba Is Good.

So I'm reading Sevens and was looking at the cover illustration and it's bugging me not knowing which character is which: http://www.novelupdates.com/series/sevens/ I'm guessing top left is the first ancestor and glasses guy is the fourth, since those are the only two that have clearly defining characteristics that I can recall. I wish they had at least had the pictures in order or something.

I know for sure that the First is the top left, the dude with the curly strand of hair is the Second, the blue haired guy is the Fourth, and the blond haired dude on the left is the Seventh. That leaves the Third, Fifth, and Sixth, and if I recall correctly they're the green haired dude, the guy at the bottom right, and the guy at the top respectively. That illustration was made long after the fact, many of the major characters never got designs until the LN came out. EDIT: Incidentally, I was really surprised when Novem turned out to look like this: Still curious what Miranda will look like, because she's pretty much The Best. I'm pretty sure you're correct about the 6th as well, since I remember it mentioned he looked like a ruffian or something, and none of the other images fit that bill. I'm a little surprised at the grandpa being blonde guy; I had assumed he was the guy in the bottom right for some reason. edit: I find myself not really giving a poo poo about the girls in this LN, but I love all of the ancestor guys and their banter with each other and the MC. I'm 95% sure that Novem is not actually romantically interested in the MC. I don't know what her deal is exactly, but her behavior is kind of strange (especially when the MC confesses that he loves her and she's like "oh that's cool" + the bizarre stuff with her trying to push the MC into a harem. No clue what her motives could be, though. I kind of like the idea of his sister being basically this super-sociopath that can magically draw those around her into her pace and be awesome at everything. It's not totally clear how Lyle was able to even cut her dress if she was capable of so easily killing those other three somewhat experienced adventurers, at least one of whom was around Zelphy's level. I'm guessing she was just caught off-guard because she was expecting Lyle to be even worse than he actually was during their duel. By the way, I think you might be wrong about the 3rd being the lower left green-hair guy; it explicitly mentioned a few chapters back (currently at chapter 35) that the third has blonde hair and blue eyes. Granted, I'm not sure if any of the characters in the image have blue eyes (that one has blonde hair, but his eyes don't look blue) so it might be a mistake on the artist's part, but I'm still assuming the blonde is the third. Which was a little unexpected since the bottom left guy's appearance seemed to fit the third's carefree personality better. So far I'm pretty clear on most of the personalities except for the 6th's. 1st is bombastic barbarian dude, 2nd seems kind of gritty-serious or something (he's probably the second least clear to me though), 3rd is carefree and easy-going, 4th is glasses guy who likes advising Lyle on girls, 5th is really stern guy who dislikes women but loves cute animals, and 7th is his grandpa who favors Lyle pretty heavily. The 3rd's personality is that he's super manipulative. Permanently closed eyes are like the design archetype for that kind of character. The 2nd's personality was that he was the opposite of his dad, coolheaded and methodical. The 6th's personality is that he a) doesn't have much of one, all things considered and b) was a rebellious kid. As for Novem: You would be wrong.

My working theory as to Lyle's sister is that her jewel only contained one person: The first woman to be born with a skill for possessing other people's bodies. She buys the yellow jewel, searches out someone with a skill that she wants and possesses their body, then re-imprints herself upon the jewel with the second skill. Repeat 5 more times, and you have a completed gem with seven overpowered skills, and one singular guiding malevolence inside. Each time someone activates that jewel, instead of receiving guidance and skills from their ancestors, they get a face-to-face meeting with evil itself, before it steals their body. His sister probably didn't even have a remarkable skill at all, she was just unlucky enough to find that jewel. The real question, assuming my theory is correct, is whether his sister has been trapped within the jewel, if her consciousness is still inside her body, or if she's gone forever and the only solution is to kill the demon in her skin and break the jewel to ensure it can never happen again.

So I recently took a look at "I will live my second life" which I'd passed over because I figured from the title that it was another video game protagonist in an RPG fantasy world" thing, but no. No RPG elements at all! Not reincarnation. Surprisingly decent translation! Slavery is not treated as a good thing the protagonist should just accept! Why is it so goddamn sad that my standards have fallen so low that these are all selling points! It's the most "American YA Fantasy as a Japanese Light novel" story I've ever seen, really. In fact if you put "Tamora Pierce" on the author line I wouldn't actually doubt it.
