I'm getting a hard crash after launching my 2nd mission after entering the game. It has happened twice. The first time, I completed the game's 1st mission, and then it crashed when I tried to launch the next one. The next time, it let me play the 2nd mission, but crashed when I hit "launch" on the 3rd. Going to try again tomorrow. That being said, this game is super fun, and I wish it were 10x as long and I could just play it forever. Well done, Kairo.

So,one of the first negative reviews of this (that I've seen) compares the game to Ground Zeroes, describing it as "Disappointing" and "Unfinished". I dunno whether to laugh at this guy because he doesn't know what the words "Early Access" mean,or just feel pity for his bad taste in games. Edit:I mean sure,it could use wayyy more missions, but what's there isn't Godawful, like the dumbass suggests. VolticSurge fucked around with this message at 02:36 on Jun 8, 2016 |

Just 100 percented it. Fun goddamn game. It's intense enough I probably look like a crazy man slapping the trigger and wincing when I play, so job well done. Looking forwards to giving it another shot when it's had another passthrough to be more difficult, since once you have a full fleet it gets pretty easy. Also, a lot of achievements aren't triggering. I didn't get the one for buying every upgrade, and I still have 3 hidden achievements left after buying everything, beating every level on Harbinger, and so on and so forth.

I can order allies to attack ships, but I don't see a way to select one as a target for myself. I found that the 'Attack highlighted object with Fighters' ([Xbox A Button]] will set the item as a target for you, since you're a fighter. Beat my head against the Priest mission with two interceptors before I decided to wander around somewhere else; it's a lot less impossible if you have a few more (larger) ships in the fleet. I'm not sure if it would be worth putting a giant blinking "you may find you need some other upgrades to finish certain missions" in front of the player. Also, I've found that I get multiple ships with the same name quite a bit. (Specifically had two 'Ey'yoon') interceptors. Seems like it should avoid duplicates. Overall top notch work, Kairo. Gameplay is super tight. Sound design is exceptional.

I do think it'd be cool if there was a "closest bonus objective" in the targeting menu. I almost lost my Harbinger run on Tannhauser because I couldn't figure out where the last heavy corvette escort was.

One question I have, is there no indicator on the radar of your warp-out vector? I've gotten clobbered by the flagship a couple times trying to find it while also trying to dodge fire

Does this game support analog throttle control? I have my CH mapped to the throttle (the standalone one, not the throttle up/down), and it seems like it goes from zero, to max normal speed, to afterburner. This made dogfighting awkward, as I couldn't really match a target's speed or what have you. Also, I am only able to use my HOTAS by using its software to present it all to Windows as a single device. Can this engine accept input from multiple inputs simultaneously? I'd like to use my HOTAS stuff for flying (feels great, aside from the throttle issue), and use the Xbox controller on the tactical map.

Really enjoying it so far. Only issues have been some finickiness with the mouse in selecting missions and the tutorial not recognizing keybinds on other devices than my joystick (so figuring out what's meant by controls was a bit tricky since it didn't mention default binds for targeting, etc. for things not on the joystick). Although I'm only a few missions in, from the comments I'd amp up the opportunities for war crimes in bonus objectives. More civilian stations and targets. Shooting down an escaped traitor lord really helped to set the mood and having the game really escalate that brutality would sell being the villain.

The Outpost in The Builder tells me I should destroy it, even though my job is to defend the transport. That seems like an oversight. There was also a bug where I always started every map in tactical mode, yet everything moved. The Broodmother had a weird bug on Easy mode where it said I destroyed all three containers even though one was still alive. Maybe there were four to start. There was also a weird bug with the warp indicator... Two hours in I've finished every mission. I really don't see much of a point to go back and do them at a harder difficulty, particularly the gate one which is a royal nightmare. To be honest there really isn't much differentiating the missions and compelling me to go from job to job. I show up, murder what I need to murder, protect what I need to protect, and move on. That said the core gameplay is really loving good and reflects a ridiculously tight and well-developed approach. There have been more than a few times when I've found myself in a tense situation and had to work my rear end off to survive, and I really appreciate that. The controls are the right amount of arcade. I struggle a bit with situational awareness sometimes, as getting hit isn't terribly visceral, but it's a minor complaint. It's a solid arcade game. It needs to be more obvious where the exit vector is located. My biggest issue is that there just isn't much game, especially not for $20. Compare the amount of gameplay you get in HoDS to Rebel Galaxy, which I finished with 31 hours played. Now I'm not suggesting I should expect that much out of your product, but two is way too little. The vast majority of the upgrades weren't even worth considering (I tried the flak drone on my fighter but it died so quickly I just skipped it), and by the end I was flying with armor piercing ammo and a pair of heavy weapons. There's also no real motivation for me to go back and complete it at a higher difficulty; I'm not much of an achievement whore and that's the only thing I could see to get me going. I think the biggest flaw is the missions. They're not terribly compelling, and I feel like the objective system could be far more effective if it was gradual instead of difficulty based. Let me set my difficulty as an option and then gradually increase the renown rewards for how well I progress. For example I get X renown if 1 ship survives, Y renown if 2 ships survive, etc. There's also no real motivation to keep any of my ships alive; I lose nothing so long as my ship survives. That doesn't really speak much towards progression or any real sense of the possibility of losing. I loved the ending though. You've done a great job with the theme. Fundamentally you're charging $20 but not delivering $20 worth of a game. The core gameplay is strong, very strong, and it's a lot of fun. But there's not enough meat in the game to justify the price.

Onion Knight posted:This is a really fun game. Kairo, great job. I don't have the game but I noticed this in the videos I've seen. The bell sample sounds highly compressed or something, and could indeed stand to be a bit more weighty sounding. I'm also not sure it should repeat a bunch, especially if it's exactly the same sample instead of a series of unique bell strike samples. As it stands it sounds like someone playing a bell sound off a cassette or VHS tape, rewinding it, and playing it again like ten times. Even with a high-quality sample it might have more emotional impact if it only hits three times or something. Just watched the intro again while writing this post and got an intense Monty Python vibe off that sequence, I think something from Holy Grail. I swear the bell sample could have been pulled from that movie. On the one hand this seems like a silly thing to nitpick extensively, but on the other I feel like the sound does so much work in this game (from what I've seen/heard anyway) that it makes something like this stand out. It's also the very beginning of the game and you want to open strong, of course.

So excited the game's out. Tried to figure out some bindings with my HOTAS but the tactical menu is a little tricky with it and I can't seem to switch to a mouse. I think I might play with the 360 controller for a bit (even though I loathe it) just to get a sense for what controls I need. edit: seems I can't assign my right stick X to pitch? I can assign it to any other axis for some reason. double edit: ok, seems like my X axis just doesn't work at all on that stick and it's not the game. Of course. powderific fucked around with this message at 04:38 on Jun 8, 2016 |

I think that's why the game basically has to start with the shield upgrade unlocked- you need a bit of tankiness to get you through until you can do some bodyhop shenanigans.

I just started this. I looove the look and feel. And sound. I do feel like a lot of stuff is kind of opaque. I played the training, couldn't figure out where the heavy weapon ammo indicator was (didn't notice the blinking and it didn't look like an ammo readout). Then I accidentally triggered the training again, tried to jump out, which seemed(?) to stick me in an endless hyperspace jump. Second mission I was supposed to save some royal guards, I thought it told me I'd protected them, it told me to jump out so I did, and it failed that objective for "abandoning" them. The exit points have been a little hard to find sometimes too. I'm also not sure how targeting works. Am I supposed to lead? Is that humming tone a "shoot now" indicator or is it something else? I'm sure a lot of this is just me being inexperienced/bad at games, but I feel like I just don't know what I'm supposed to do a lot of the time. Still having a lot of fun, though.
