Okay, so here's the details. Beginning this Friday, 06/10/2016, from 8:30pm CST (1:30am 6/11 GMT) to 10:30, we'll be doing Rainmaker in Team Battle. The matches will be set up via the Discord chatroom. However initially I would just like to use the text chat and avoid the voice chat for battles. My NNID is JonasOrtega. Initial impressions of the NZap '83. It's a lot more fun than I originally thought. Point Sensor makes me way more confident to attack if I tag an opponent while the Kraken is a special that I wanted and am finally getting more experience with.

I've had mixed experiences. The Heavy Splatling Remix is ok-ish, the lack of a proper offensive sub makes the weapon limited in scope, so it's more for suppression. The H-3 Nozzlenose Cherry demands a steady hand, even if you get to use the bubbler as a special. The Grim Ranged Blaster is certainly versatile, with splat bombs covering the short range and the killer wail providing long range reach, but you need to keep an eye on your ink tank if you don't want to be caught in a bad position.

Looking into managing my abilities better and was wondering if I may get some advice. How effective is Damage Up? I am beginning to realize that it may only be useful for certain weapons. NZap, not being one of them unless I get quite a bit. I have a friend who talked up Bomb Range Up, but I can't really see how effective it can be. Granted, I haven't used sub-weapons all too often aside from the recent habit of throwing Point Sensors since they don't drain much ink. Would the Special Duration Up ability be worth it for the Kraken? Looking over at splatwiki, it hardly does seem like it would be. Are there any standout unique abilities? While I am a growing fan of Bomb Sniffer and Last-Ditch Effort, it seems like Ink Resistance takes that throne. Also, just out of curiosity, what are abilities that other people like to make use of?

JetpackHowwy posted:Looking into managing my abilities better and was wondering if I may get some advice. If you just want to know if Damage Up is good on an NZap instead of a giant wall of text on Damage Up, the answer is no. If you want more than that, then go right on ahead. Damage Up can reliably reduce your kill time/shots to kill on Rapid Blasters, anything with Burst Bombs, and Chargers. Damage Up is often used as a counter to Defense Up on weapons that are especially vulnerable. The Splattershot variants and the Gals are notable inclusions, since they can be forced to need an extra shot from one main's worth of Defense Up or less. The N-Zap can be made into a five-shot kill, but it requires an enemy to be wearing three mains' worth of Defense Up, so most N-Zaps don't run damage, choosing to work with gear that suits their play style instead of trying to account for the <2% of people they'd encounter running that amount of Defense Up. Damage Up on Blasters and Rollers is more about kill assurance than anything else. It's not terribly common, but it's also not terribly uncommon. Most hits within the blast radius (on non-Rapid Blasters) will do about 60+ damage (120 damage is the point where no amount of Defense Up can prevent a death), but the areas on the very edge of the radius can see that number drop below 50. Same concept applies with Rollers with ranged flicks. This still, however, goes back to the issue of how many times you'll actually see this work for you in application. Damage Up will extend the effective range of your weapon. Most weapons are able to shoot ink beyond the range where your reticle lights up and will deal damage. The amount of damage, however, will noticeably drop beyond this point. The same thing happens when arcing your shot up over a ledge or shooting down at an enemy from a high vantage point. In all of these scenarios the same rule is being applied: When the path of your shot exceeds the distance your crosshairs would light up at, your damage is going to be reduced. This has the potential to increase the number of shots your weapon needs to get a kill. Damage Up can help curtail that damage drop off. Certain weapons are more prone to damage drop off than others. For example, the Heavy Splatling and Hydra Splatling are both able to shoot ink well beyond what is their intended effective range and are also weapons designed to abuse their range, therefore the Splatlings can benefit greatly from a small investment of Damage Up (and yet most don't, because it all comes back to prioritizing what you want out of a weapon and for Splatlings that is usually Run Speed Up). Then there is the weird stuff, like maxing out a charged Bamboozler shot or three hits from a Squelcher at 99.9 damage, which will kill anyone who has stepped in so much as a dot of your ink just prior to being attacked. Before the .96 and the Tentatek had their base damage reduced, there was a certain amount of damage you could run on a .96 to ensure that one shot from a teammate's Tentatek meant a one-shot kill for you to clean up neatly. Then there's the Damage Up build for Luna Blaster Neo and Custom Range Blaster that lets you kill on any indirect shot if the enemy took non-lethal damage from your Splat Bomb. This kind of stuff is really sitting on the fringe though, but it exists and it's out there. Other considerations: Damage up on a Wail versus an opposing Wail on the rainmaker shield will make your Wail more effective than theirs. Running more Damage Up on a Gal than another Gal user and shooting at each other's walls will make it so that you tear their wall down faster. Same concept with Krakens hitting Rainmaker shield and walls. Plenty of stuff like this. JetpackHowwy posted:I have a friend who talked up Bomb Range Up, but I can't really see how effective it can be. Granted, I haven't used sub-weapons all too often aside from the recent habit of throwing Point Sensors since they don't drain much ink. Bomb range up is great (but doesn't work on Sprinklers or Seekers). Special Duration Up works as advertised but isn't so great. Ink Resistance is probably king of unique abilities again now that Stealth Jump has been modestly nerfed and Cold-Blooded nerfed a few months before that. They made all the bad unique abilities serviceable, but I'd say Haunt is probably the most underrated.

Rexroom posted:Also the new Aerospray and NZAP are insane. Especially with the added Kraken specials. Who OK'd these? Yeah, I tried out the new Aerospray and managed to rack up a 8-9 game win streak with it. Kraken seems to work well with the Aerospray since it gives you an option to approach enemies that out-range you and an emergency technique to get out of situations where the enemy gets the drop on you.

Those things are some kind of cultural meme over there. In any case, I guess this means the US one is coming pretty soon, huh? I tried out the Grim Range Blaster tonight. I'm gonna have to try it out again on maps that are a little more conducive to that type of weapon, because I didn't do well with it at all. I was starting to get pretty good with it by the end though, and even took top of the team on my last match with it. So far, that's the only weapon in this set that I don't like. Meanwhile, the merch train keeps a-rollin' with pool toys.
