EvilGenius posted:Then there's the gendered bathroom laws. Good news! The thing you think your wives and daughters need protecting from, doesn't actually happen! No laws are required! But ARE CHILDRENS! One of the most fascinating things about this whole bathroom thing is that the people posting about how transgender folks should strictly adhere to a sign to prevent some imagined threat of rape tend to be the same people that laugh at the idea of banning guns at schools and putting up "Gun Free Zone" signs stopping school shootings.

The best part about the bathroom debate is how it just largely disappeared when that news story about the kid falling into the zoo enclosure came out.

I'm also curious as to why conservatives are suddenly so concerned with rape. It was practically a joke to them during the 2014 elections. And if they're so concerned with protecting children from rapists, why are they still defending Dennis Hastert?

Rape is usually written off because it's thought that there was something the woman could've done to prevent it. The only way rape is considered bad is if it's in addition to another bad thing, like breaking and entering. If you take away the excuse of "He shouldn't have been in the women's room in the first place", then the rape isn't bad anymore.

If you take away the excuse of "He shouldn't have been in the women's room in the first place", then the rape isn't bad anymore. This actually makes sense. The drummer for Good English tried to justify it in her infamous letter as "This is completely different from a woman getting kidnapped and raped as she's walking to her car in the parking lot. That is a rapist. These are not rapists." Like, any logical person would say "No, the guy who raped someone is literally a rapist. That's what the word means." But there seems to be a really unfortunate thing in our society where rapists are constantly defined as outsiders from your life. They're guys in trenchcoats hiding in bushes, or a thug with a switchblade in the alley who grabs a woman off the street at night. Even though the vast majority of sexual assault is committed by people the victims know, it's so ingrained that a rapist is a specific kind of criminal like a mugger or convenience store robber that people fall over themselves to defend the most common kind of rapist: someone you know who got drunk and thought it was harmless to shove his dick in an unconscious girl at a party.

Don't forget that, in addition to being white, the guy's family is also wealthy. Him being white certainly ex[plains the public defending him, but being wealthy is probably what got him the reduced sentence in the first place.

The CFO at work does #14 every single time anyone tries to talk to her. It was actually something recommended by her counselor or therapist or something as a way of handling her extreme inability to pay attention during conversations or remember what's being said to her: you try to predict what the person is about to finish their sentence with and say it with them, or repeat the end of their sentence right after them. She also was taught to immediately nod her head and say "Right" or "Yes" after you speak, regardless of whether or not she actually agrees. Considering how difficult it is to get her to understand fairly basic things, I don't think it's had much effect. It also sometimes makes conversations more confusing when she incorrectly predicts what you're about to say and talks over you.

Do none of you people have muslim friends? There's some magic loving poo poo there at times, especially when they're getting a bit, light-headed this time of year. These two are from a girl I was with in high school that added me for some reason! She didn't post any of her anti-vaxx poo poo recently but it's somewhere in her 3000 or so baby pictures. These are, again, from the same person, in this case one of the most cringy women I've ever known. I'd buy her an account because she'd fit in here perfectly. Bonus points for her knowing how retarded the second one is, but posting it anyway! (Google patronym if u dont get it) This poo poo made me laugh though:

Which is awesome because it's another event where people who think things work like the do in movies saying "couldn't they have tranq'd the Gorilla?" not knowing that tranqs are not like in the movies, they can take time to take effect, and if you watch the tape the kid was in very real danger; the one shown on the news was heavily edited and make it look like the kid was being protected, they removed the part where it was dragging the kid around by its leg.

The best part about the Target bathroom thing is going into work worrying if it's my store someone's going to threaten to shoot up today or if someone's going to plant a bomb in the bathroom (Both of those have happened at other Targets in my state already). Wait, did I say best part? I meant worst. The funny thing is that my coworkers who were dubious about the policy have come pretty full circle to supporting it because the people against it are so God drat crazy and there's been zero problems caused by the policy itself.
