I do like the secondary rockets for their off-boresight capabilities, as awesome as the shotgun is. Yeah I still can't agree with this. It's two well placed shots to kill an unshielded destroyer or four at max range when you can't accurately snipe out the bridge. The reload is longish but you can shoot twice then swap to missiles, and by the time your missiles are out the longrifle's ready again. I think it's balanced in general by being utterly worthless against shielded targets but I don't think there are enough shielded targets in higher difficulties to make it worth leaving behind. Your capitals can deal with enemy capital shields well enough and your missiles take care of corvettes and smaller. edit: on the other hand the fact that we're even having this discussion is a pretty good indication that the two primaries are pretty well balanced against each other and its down to play style and personal preference vvv i need to try this now Night Shade fucked around with this message at 03:36 on Jun 12, 2016 |

I just absolutely demolished Harbinger Tannhauser Gate with the sentry mod so I may be walking back my earlier criticism.

I guess I never shot it at too many destroyers, but being inside missile range means you're really not using its range advantage at all. It just feels like, using it as intended at longer ranges, leaves you with no effective tool to use while you sit there watching it to reload, which is more than you're shooting it. To be fair I haven't tried the EMP secondary, maybe that gives me something to use but then not too many enemies have shields that I really need to concern myself with.

Has anyone been able to make the Kamikaze upgrade (or even the kamikaze order) feel worth it? It makes all of your fighters super fragile, and every time I've ordered an AI ship to do it they somehow die on their way to their target or just never ram them. Even if otherwise they can survive all of Tannhouser gate until the flagship gets them with kamikaze equipped. I mean sure, if I personally fly face first into something, it tends to kill that one ship. But, you know, may as well just bomb it at that point and keep a spare life/set of guns. It's a cool idea, but it just penalizes you so much to bother, even when giving the command works. So while replaying various missions for fun, I've basically using it for fun to see if they obey orders and actually nail the flagship in the face before I warp out. A dead flagship is always satisfying. Section Z fucked around with this message at 12:10 on Jun 12, 2016 |

So maybe I'm retarded, but is there any kind of visual clue for where to aim my ship to get my guns on target? Is it just having the cursor over the enemy and being in range?

When you're leading properly the extra ticks will come up and the tone will start going. You'll have an infinitely easier time of it if you've played space sims before because the lead is exactly where you expect it to be, you just get zero indication before you're on it properly.

This game looks stunning and is very fun but I just suck at it, anyone made some decent tutorial for noobs like me to learn some proper maneuvers or some poo poo? Also I assume this was brought up but I can't enter full screen mode in a dual monitor setup, any work around?

Is this a bug? I'm on a mission where I need to blow up some ore containers, and if I'm too close to them the autocannon stops doing damage. Also where did my third fighter go? I had three, replayed an older mission, now I have two. If I lose a ship during any mission do I lose it forever if I actually complete the mission in the process? You want to be working out which way it's flying and aiming just ahead of it in that direction. If you're in that region and you've got tone you should hit it ~80% of the time I think. If I'm remembering correctly kairo, the game experimented with a couple of different styles of lead indicator. Why'd you go with this?

In an earlier mission you have an 'assault transport' which isn't much bigger than an interceptor I don't think, they look the same at a glance. e: - I figured out how to get targets from the tactical view - You select your currently controlled craft and give it an attack order, when you get out of tactical view, that enemy will be targeted. - Having started the game again, it is a lot easier to play missions with a smaller fleet if you divide your interceptors across objectives (i.e treat the game as if there is no 'You' as a character, and instead as a label to point out who you are currently controlling directly). In 'The Builder' it was very easy to take down all the bonus objectives, destroyers, and sentry guns by jumping between interceptors going after different targets on opposite sides of the mission. I feel like the whole story aesthetic of you possibly being an uploaded consciousness instead of an actual person makes sense in this regard. Like I was saying, 'You' as a character represent the Emperors will and everything under his control, not just any individual person. e2: haha I got run over by the big ship in the training mission. Kairo, congratulations - this game is really, really good and I'm a massive fan of it. HotDS leaves me wanting to play more. It felt like a great callback to classic action sci-fi sims like Tie Fighter. I loved how collisions were handled (cut to black), how flying felt, the different types of weapons. Fantastic work.

I know the HOTAS stuff has been a pain on the dev end, but I'm having so much fun flying my space fighter around with a stick. Everything works great with my Thrustmaster Hotas X. Since the game really doesn't feel like it's meant for the continuous throttle, I bound boost, drift, and brake to three buttons and just leave the throttle in one spot. For a while it threw me off but after a few games I got used to it and I think it's probably better than any kludge with button press bands on the throttle axis. Are people usually playing it through on easy to get fleet upgrades and then replaying missions on harder levels? At first I tried to do my playthrough on the medium difficulty from the beginning and had a lot of trouble on a couple missions. After giving up and setting it to easy, I got some fleet upgrades and was able to do them on medium piece of cake.

Running the risk of asking a pretty stupid question here, but is there any chance of this game running on a mere 1GB of video RAM? I'm a big fan of the old X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, but my laptop has slightly limited specs(it meets all the other specs though, just not that VRAM) The screen is 1366x768 so it wouldn't need to run at 1080 or something, and I don't have any VR stuff. I have plans to get a new desktop but they're kind of vague at the moment, and I'd rather join in the fun now than wait, or buy it and discover I can't run it for some time.
