I was just at that campus and the only difference I noticed was more cops and I couldn't get into the building with the Tim Hortons for my double double

NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - The departure of a Saudi diplomat accused of repeatedly raping and torturing two Nepali maids in his home outside Delhi sparked outrage in India on Thursday with activists calling on the United Nations to pressure Riyadh to take up the matter.

Citing the diplomatic immunity under the Vienna Convention, foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup confirmed in a statement late on Wednesday that Majed Hassan Ashoor, the first secretary at the Saudi embassy, had left India.

"We realise that the laws and conventions are such that there is little India could have done to prevent him from leaving," said Kavita Krishnan, secretary of the All India Progressive Women's Association.

"The focus and pressure has to be on the Saudis to take it up and ensure the victims get justice. You can't have allegations of a rape racket in your bedroom and think you can get away with it without any investigation."

The international community, including the United Nations and influential countries like the United States, should put pressure on the Saudis to pursue the matter, added Krishnan.

Indian police last week rescued the two women, aged 30 and 50, from Ashoor's luxury apartment after a tip-off from an anti-human trafficking group and the Nepali embassy. The women told police they were gang raped, assaulted, tortured and starved while held captive for over three months. The women said they were raped by eight men on one occasion. Medical examinations showed evidence of rape and sodomy. The women came from remote rural parts of Nepal and were sent to Saudi Arabia as domestic servants by human traffickers before returning to New Delhi with their employer.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Over-20-men-allegedly-raped-maids-of-Saudi-diplomat/articleshow/48940210.cms

quote:

he two Nepalese women, who were rescued from the Gurgaon flat of a Saudi diplomat, had probably been sexually assaulted by over 20 men over a period of time.
The two women had shared with police this shocking detail, but the police were waiting for more confirmation. Medical tests - performed twice - gave a clear indication of the brutality the two had to suffer. The women had even claimed that sometimes seven or eight men would take turns in raping them.

And now CCTV footage taken from Caitriona Apartments clearly shows the diplomat, a first secretary at the Saudi embassy, had around 22 regular visitors. All of them came dressed in the traditional Saudi attire, complete with the keffiyeh or headgear. In one such footage, the diplomat is seen welcoming his friends at the entrance of his 6,750-sq feet apartment.

The cops in charge of the investigation, after examining the CCTV footage, have handed it over to the DCP (east) office.
But they have still not been able to act on the information available as they are waiting for instructions from the ministry of external affairs. The police have also requested MEA for permission to question the diplomat and his wife, who are now staying in the embassy.

Some good reading on Saudi culture today. Wanted to keep it still fresh on everyone's mind how important it is to protect the sanctity of contracts.

“Canada is a country of the rule of law, a country of democratically elected government, and regardless of how we may feel about a previous government, the fact is they were democratically elected. They signed on to a contract and we are bound to respect that contract,” Mr. Trudeau said at a news conference.

But seriously, I'm actually heartened by the news. I would have personally preferred an open bidding process (oddly enough, much like the Cons are bleating about now that Dear Leader is out) since I would like to see what else Dassault would be willing to give us, since offering the Rafaele's software source code, and helping to set up and invest in Canadian manufacturing to make the logistics and support for their fighter Canadian enough to pass muster. But getting Super Hornets would be pretty nifty too. Really, anything to distance us from those expensive bricks is good in my books.

Hey CanPol goons! Do you want to fill out your Toronto Sun Bingo card?

Liberal left hijacked Toronto vigil for those killed in Orlando

quote:

They were all there at Sunday night’s gay vigil in downtown Toronto’s Barbara Hall Park.

The leftist hypocrites. The politically correct. The haters of the only gay-positive country in the Middle East, namely Israel, where Gay Pride was just celebrated a week ago with a huge party in Tel Aviv.

Most of all, there was a gaggle of politicians who could not bring themselves to concede, despite the evidence, that it was an Islamic terrorist who was responsible for killing 49 people and wounding countless others during the wee hours of the morning Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando.

Premier Kathleen Wynne wouldn’t say it. Nor would Liberal MP Rob Oliphant, Nor would Mayor John Tory.

Muslim extremist. There I said it — the dreaded “M” word.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. My wife Denise and I sat glued to CNN a good part of Sunday just horrified at this random butchery of fellow gays in our adopted state.

There was nothing wrong with holding a vigil deep in the heart of Toronto’s gay village to honour their memory.

What sickened me was how the Liberal left hijacked it.

I tuned in to the news just as our premier was quoted as lecturing the crowd that “homphobia cannot be fought with Islamophobia” — a comment that of course played well in the left-wing media.

Rev. Brent Hawkes, the self-anointed spiritual leader of the gay community who refused to take a strong stand against the presence of the hateful Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QuAIA) in the Pride parade, stood beside her happily clapping.

There's more if you want the full house, but this should do it.
