If nothing else the guy putting the soundtrack together remains on point. Fury Road and Man from U.N.C.L.E. were both excellent choices. The Vulcan bit was Mythbusters and Alton Brown did a better job cooking food with a car. The challenges still, on the whole, feel a little off compared to old Top Gear (or Top Gear USA), but presumably that will come with time. Harris and Rory are both real good at talking about cars.

Viewers down even more, although I don't understand how they got 2.4 million minus 0.7 million to equal 2.3 million. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/top-gear-ratings-plummet-further-8234778 Maybe they mean from episode one. For my part, I've lost interest, particularly in the high budget new car pieces. That used to be the big thing, but after more than a decade of the same recipe I just fall asleep or start browsing my phone. "The old model was good, but this one has more torques and more carbon fibers! Now let's see how it powerslides to rock music". There are tons of youtube shows now with more time, more informed opinion and which doesn't have to appeal to the mass public and which feature more interesting stories and more interesting cars. Even when Jeremy & co were doing it, I found the new car reviews to be very boring. It was the challenges and the arsing around which was fun, because of the three personalities. It's more fun to watch them fold cardboard boxes than to watch any one of them explain in the simplest of terms how the new M5 has been incrementally improved from the previous.

spog posted:"Hey, how can we improve Evan's terrible personality?" This is roughly what I was thinking too... The only reason they could possibly want Eddie along is to make Evans seem normal. I want more Chris Harris which we're getting so can't complain about that. Doesn't feel like they've found a good place for Sabine yet, she seemed out of place going along with the scripted challenges. Maybe Chris should invite her along to his web show for some fun times.

Sabine comes across as slightly mad, she's certainly excitable. Jordan was a daft choice for presenter, he's as bad as Evans who this week was actually not bad. But there's a definite lack of chemistry, the slight oddness of the studio sections after the car 'reviews', they seem stilted and unnatural. It's like everything is actually scripted. I don't hate the show, if anything it's just more cars on TV which I'm all for. Chris Knight posted:Matt's brexit joke was pretty good. I missed that, just went to confirm what it was. Very good. Glad it wasn't just me that thought that - I was watching the other side and flicking over for interesting bits. It's quite impressive how Evans is killing this show: it takes skills to drive away fans at such a rate. I perked up at the challenge when they announced it...but it was just dull. Nothing happened, no humour was present, no opinions, no tech stuff and I didn't even learn anything about the cars used over than the fact that a motorbike has a small fuel tank. They could have done it in hire cars and it would have been just as interesting. EDIT: Rory is still good.

Chris Evans really needs to go, he's completely insufferable and you start feeling irritated anytime he's on screen, even if he hasn't opened his mouth yet. My opinion is: sack Evans, LeBlanc and Schmitz. Give the show to Harris and Reid along with another presenter, someone with a cynical, sarcastic comedic background, and ask Harris and Reid to be a bit more edgy.

Yeah, definite improvement and I hope they stick with the review format of Harris with the supercars and Reid with the more regular vehicle reviews.

Last night's episode was actually pretty good but what I found odd is that after this big long race I didn't know a single thing about the cars they drove. They were just using the cars as anonymous vehicles to advance the hosts across the map, but the balance really should be a bit more on the cars themselves. It's a car show!

Have there been any reviews of the new format by Clarkson/May/Hammond?

My thoughts on S23E04: Definitely the best episode of the show's reboot so far. The car reviews were both very good. Harrismonkey's film on the Vulcan was both passionately narrated and visually magnificent. Truly one of the best TG car review films the BBC has ever produced. Rory is fun and I like his attitude, but I'm not sold on his on-camera charisma yet. Perhaps this will improve as time goes on. Nonetheless, I enjoyed his Tesla review and think he's a great writer. The cheap car challenge had its fun moments, but it was uninspired and perhaps a little too ridiculous (even for TG standards). IMO, it was a halfass re-hashing of one of Top Gear's greatest challenges ever; The Race to the North in S13E01. The cars were unremarkable, not memorable, and Leblanc on the bike served purely as comedic relief without any sort of strategy. It was also extremely similar to the S19E03 race from London to Milan, though that was just with one car. Jordan adds very little to the show. He's a funny little guy, but generally doesn't say enough to contribute anything of worth. The absolute worst part of this particular episode, and this series so far has been Star in a Rallycross Car. I used to love Star in a Reasonably Priced car. It used to be a simple segment where a celebrity (maybe two) would come on and chat for a few minutes about their current work, maybe a minute or two chat about cars, then beat the balls off an econobox. Now it's a third of the show. The two-guest format is awful, and Evans making it into a contest about who has better cars is cringeworthy. Overall though, it was refreshing have less Evans this week. His in-studio segments are perpetually irritating and the crowd-hyping is embarrassing.

Evans was very pleased at how clever his naughty lap time board addition was. I mean just doing it and unfolding the flap would have been perfect as is, but he then had to try to milk the crowd a bit more. And it immediately fell flat.

Given that they've been fairly philosophical about the change ('there was a Top Gear before us, there will be one after us'), I am assuming that that they adopting the 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything' ethos and trying to stay classy. May tweeted that he was going to watch the new show...then silence from all of them. Of course, the papers that they write for have been very active and who knows what happens behind the scenes, but nothing has been attributed to them,

They really need to just make this show be just Reid and Harris. They are killing it with their films. Extra Gear should really just be Top Gear. Keep Extra Gear how it is, throw their films from the main episode in and broadcast that. I like Matt LeBlanc but I don't know how much longer he'll want to stick around. Sabine is cool but I haven't seen her interact with Reid or Harris much. Eddie Jordan is complete garbage and I have no idea why they even included him. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing with cars, and his only connection to cars is that he raced in some lower Formula series and owned an F1 team. He looks like a weird puppet. Chris Evans is not redeemable in any way. The Venice challenge seemed pointless. "Here's some stuff about my car" and then it was just about the chefs trying to do the challenge while the hosts just drove the cars around. They didn't even show the start of the car part, probably because they had to cut time for the guest segment. The BBC is probably trying to turn this into another talk show but slightly about cars. I really wish they would just let Reid and Harris do their own thing, they make such a good show. The latest TGUS is pretty lame so far. This winter drop top thing just seems like they are grasping for ideas. I haven't been interested in any of the challenges so far.
