Now, since I've been in Toussaint, I've noticed something going on with Geralt. He holds his left arm out and down at an angle, with his elbow bent and forarm hanging down. I can't tell if he has a broken arm, or if he's trying to be all fancy for the royalty. Anyone else seen this?

I got that too. It seems to be a bug, not an affectation on Geralt's part (though that was my first conclusion too). I think a reload fixed it.

I'd seriously give the bomb glitch a try if zoning out doesn't work.

For those that don't know you can throw bombs at merchants. They stumble a tad and kinda reset themselves. You basically have to throw the bomb as close as you can and run up mashing X. What happens is there'll be a fraction of a second where the dialog option is there before they go back to ignoring you.

I had a guy who wouldn't let me talk to him in a bar to complete his quest in Vanilla this worked on.

Do you tend to use torches? Basically the game is pulling up the animation for holding something in his left hand, which are like torches or lanterns and stuff. Pull one out and put it away again and he should go back to normal.

Yes, it's definitely torch related for me. Happens occasionally when I go into some cave areas and he force pulls one out.

While BaW was utterly an amazing experience that very neatly cleaned up the story of Geralt, in a way that was overall well done - the way the central plot cleans up is disappointing. I get that the Witcher is all about the moral grey areas, but the one person higher up in the thread sums it up for me. The choices aren't morally grey at all, your choices are let 2 unrepentant murderers go free with no repercussions for the dozens of deaths they caused or Kill them.

It's kind of weird that even if you uncover the whole plot, there's absolutely no way to save the Duchess beyond having them reconcile. Surely Geralt and the guards should be able to say "hey really really don't hug her your highness. She wants to kill you and she will kill you

But after all that is squared away, the final scene was wonderful and a perfect cap to the series.

Now to go hunt down more sidequests.

I think it's safe to say that HoS had the better story line, but B&W has the better environment and sidequests. Even then, saying the story isn't as good as HoS doesn't mean much, because I like the story, it's just a little weaker than HoS.

I actually enjoyed most of the story a fair bit, and it has some really great highs. I'd say HoS and BaW are on par besides the end.

But yeah the environment is just incredible.

It's probably unfair to compare the two expansions since BaW was larger in scope, whereas HoS was more focused and self contained. I feel that the high points in BaW do measure up to those in HoS, but it's a shame that they are rarely found in the main quest.

B&W has Hanses, which are mechanically some of the most fun areas in any part of the game.

HoS felt really good and had a solid atmosphere, but by the end I was a little put out by how much of a dick Gaunter O'Dimm actually was and how it didn't really make any sense to do anything but turn against him. He was just loving with and killing random people like that guy in the bar who he just murdered for interrupting him. Morally it was pretty clear cut to turn against him, I thought. My favorite part of HoS was probably the Caretaker mostly because after I said out loud "What the gently caress is that?", Geralt repeated it in game with some of the best delivery I've ever heard.

I felt the choice at the end was more about whether it was worth risking eternal torment for a complete shithead like Ogierd rather than whether it was the right thing to do to side with O'Dimm. Of course it's not the right thing to do to be on his side, but whether it's worth even attempting to cross him is a worthy question.

I had exactly the same reaction to the Caretaker. That was great.

How have people found the boss fights in Blood and Wine? I've read a lot of people complaining about the bosses in Hearts of Stone and I mostly found them incredibly frustrating. Not difficult at all, even on death march (probably because of my build, not my skill as a player; bear armor and protective coating make for incredible resilience), just frustrating. None of them were very threatening, but they stunned me with every other attack, took a huge amount of damage to kill and had infuriating healing gimmicks. I just started Blood and Wine, and found the beginning is very dense with bosses. The first two were laughable, but I just reloaded on the third because it's not only the same sort of gigantic damage sponge with tons of stuns and frustrating attacks but that still can barely hurt me at all, it's also an escort mission boss fight.

That scene with Gaunter O'Dimm at the tavern was a weird misstep on the story's part. I could have bought into him being a malevolent spirit who feeds off people's stupidity, cruelty or greed when they make wishes and enter into contracts with him, but when he straight up murders people for no reason you don't really have a moral grey area anymore, like you said. Maybe they did it so you are reminded how powerful O'Dimm is right before the final confrontation, so the ending decision has more weight to it, but I think there were plenty of moments before that showed he wasn't someone Geralt should mess with. Or maybe they just did it because it looked cool or something, who knows?

I liked the Caretaker too because even Geralt who had seen a lot of supernatural poo poo before was put off, and the dog and cat had a creepy vibe too. The whole haunted house section was great, but I think my favorite part in HoS was the wedding, because it's not really something you see in a game. It had a ridiculous premise and some over the top parts, but I found it a great change of pace.

I think B&W actually has fewer unique fights than HoS, oddly enough. Most of them are normal enemies with more health, including that one.

If it's the Shaelmar fight it's invincible from the back and sides and really tough from the front until it falls on its back. Try to lure it into charging into a wall.

HoS had some really interesting and contrasting high points. The atmosphere and visuals were incredible (my steam library is all Witcher 3 screenshots) and the dialog was top notch at pretty much every step of the way, but the contrast of the haunted house vs. the downtime at the wedding was probably the best part of the whole expac. Both extremes were so well done and other than my previous nitpick, it's such an incredibly high quality expansion it feels almost wrong to complain about it.

One thing to think about, regarding B&W's ending:
Syanna made sure to use a method of enacting her revenge that minimised the bloodshed. A higher vampire wouldn't need to kill servants or bodyguards, just the target, whereas a normal assassin or a mercenary band would likely shed innocent blood at some point, even if just at the final stage of the plot. If you apply a black and white morality that the fact she killed anyone for revenge is irredeemable, then sure, that's true, but in that case everyone in the Witcher is evil, including the heroes. The whole series is steeped in moral relativism, though. If you have any sympathy for the Bloody Baron, a man who literally beat his wife into a miscarriage, and murdered a man for loving her, I'm not sure you can judge a woman for holding a grudge against the men that left her to die in the woods, instead of doing ANYthing else that would live up to their supposed vows of chivalry.

Dettlaff is a trickier case, but he is basically an autistic demi-god. I agree that after what happens, the ending where Regis has to put him down is probably for the best - Regis made it clear the prison in Tesham Mutna was basically torture, so probably an even less appealing option- but there's room to pity him as a victim of circumstance. He fell for the wrong woman when he wasn't psychologically prepared or emotionally mature enough to understand her using him for another purpose. Had he been a human, he'd probably have gotten wasted and cut up in a barfight while drowning his sorrows, but as a vampire, he has the power to enforce the selfish need of his pain.

And the reconciliation ending isn't Syanna being made co-duchess, she's still imprisoned (in the same way many nobles were imprisoned in the real world, meaning locked in a lavish suite with a couple of guards at the door) for murder, blackmail and attempted coup, and the only reason she's not executed is her sister's sentiment.

And for all the talk of branches, it's not like HoS has much ambivalence. One ending has you being Satan's errand boy and condemning a man capable of repentance to an eternity of who-knows-what... and the other has you kicking the Devil's rear end and allowing said man a second chance. Not sure where the ambiguity was supposed to be there, unless you're adhering to that notion of 'is Olgierd worth it?' at which point we're back 'is the Bloody Baron?'

(On Xbone) I feel like pure alchemy isn't as good as alchemy with some sword skills. You still need to go through the menus to activate the right oil and decotions every time though and that is annoying. Especially since you're a chump if you enter combat and forgot to activate your decoctions, since so many bonuses are tied to it.

I use the decoction that heals you when you use stamina (and I wear full cat armor so my stamina recharges quickly) and for my 2nd decoction, I play around with the different damage ones. 5% crit, 1% attack per swing, etc.

Works well on death march so long as you know how to dodge. Quen is the only sign I use regularly. I do a ton of damage but can die pretty quick, regardless of green mutagens and vit bonuses.

That's the Pheasantry. The entrance is on the soutehrn side, more to the left of the building. It's easy to mistake another generic locked door for the entrance.

Also, monsters in Toussaint seem to drop a lot of red mutagens.
