GramCracker posted:Same here. I think that $15 I spent on the WEC streaming package for the 2016 race was 1,000,000% worth it and the best $15 I've spent in a LONG time. It's honestly got me highly considering the season package. I bought the season pass and I can confirm that it is totally worth it for all the 6hr races.

drgitlin posted:Hello from Pikes Peak! I am at this year's Hillclimb, covering it for Ars Technica and wanted to see if anyone has any questions they want me to ask or cars/teams/drivers they'd like me to talk to etc while I'm here? Please find some crotchety old-timers who thinking paving the whole road up to the peak has ruined the hill climb and get their expert opinions. But seriously, ask around and see if newer participants would have done the climb if it was still dirt, or how they think they'd be doing on dirt. (I'm bitter about them getting rid of the dirt, okay?)

Wish I could have made it to Pikes Peak this year. I've gone a couple times before and it's really fun, especially because the teams are usually just chilling on the side of the road and you can walk right up and check out the cars or talk to people.

Will any of Pike's peak be televised? Browsing their website on a phone isn't hitting on much.

I asked a while ago and nobody answered, so I too hope there is some form of streaming or something for Pikes Peak.

No, there's no streaming I'm afraid. I think that would require someone to stump up quite a bit of cash to make that happen. Red Bull made the investment when they ran the 208, but no one else is spending that kind of money.

Ask whether it will snow this year. I realized last time I was there was 06, which is a decade ago now. Doesn't feel like that long ago.

First Pikes Peak post is up: http://arstechnica.com/cars/2016/06/electric-vehicles-at-altitude-pikes-peak-qualifying-day/ Romain Dumas looked rather jet-lagged and sleep deprived when I spoke to him yesterday but he still set fastest time in the Unlimiteds. Haven't seen a lot of races here, but no kidding, it's literally a painted on circuit isn't it? Just another car that just decided to not take the next three corners and he ended up perfectly fine.

The blue and red are super-high-grip spaces and may rub your tires a bit, but for testing, it's safer and easier than gravel.
