I only Kickstart webcomic printing runs and movies from creative people I know is within their scope like the Charlie the Unicorn movie for these exact reasons of this game. Video game kickstarters always seem to disappoint and it seems easier to just wait for release and buy the good ones then. Although Undertale was great and if I had a time machine I'd throw a gently caress ton of cash at it for an immortalized tumblr Fandom drawing porn of my kickstarter backing tier.

According to the megaman thread going for 2d instead of 3d would be omg impossible because there are like no 2d artists left in the world because everyone uses 3d. There's no way they could ever get good quality 2d on their meager budget because stuff like rayman or dragon's crown were totally made by aaa studios tras that had like infinite money and some guy with a super strong artistic vision and HOW DARE YOU question their all knowing decision to go with 3d instead of 2d !!!

For a game the scope of mighty no9 it would more reasonably be closer to 4-5k. However once you have that mesh animation can be much, much faster and can be more iterative than 2D. As for environment assets, you get a lot more resuablitiy out of 3d meshes because you can rotate and light them on different angles which reduces asset fatigue. There is more to it but those are the biggest cost savings.

Skullgirls looks like GI Joe for perverts, it's ugly and that's a terrible example.
