Man, they kinda abandoned the whole Taako taco subplot relatively early on, huh? I'm at Moonlighting and I think this is one of the last times it's come up.

I think it's because sometimes it's more fun to be sincere about something then to try and goof all over it all the time. It's the same reason why this town isn't full of Tom Bodett clones, 'yes and'-ing your way to jokes doesn't work so well when you have to keep a coherent story for long term. See some of the dumb poo poo that became canonical in early "Hello From the Magic Tavern" episodes.

I also think it's because as the podcast went on, the guys became comfortable enough in their fantasy skin to go for more character-based humor rather than just plain goofs, and as Griffin's improved as a DM, the storytelling has become the main draw.

It's also this weird split between Travis putting way too much thought into Magnus' backstory, and Justin putting in basically no thought more than class and name into his. IIRC, the search for the taco thing was added on after the fact. Travis realized it wasn't going to be as serious as he though, and Justin realized it wasn't going to be straight-up goofs all of the time, so it evened out. Now that Clint knows the rules and is actually trying, it's become much more fun.

Really liking this latest AdZone episode, anyone got a link to the map that they talk about?

The moment he started talking about the people in the bank, I knew that they were going to introduce a time loop of sorts.

Edit: Thanks!

Shmanners is like Sawbones in that sometimes the subject is a bit hit or miss. I'm just about at the point where I'd pick and choose but I find the idea of etiquette to be kind of interesting over the last couple of years after I got married.

I like the rapport between Travis and Teresa, and they both have a very particular energy. Episode-wise, the Casinos one is pretty good, as is the Travel: Boats and Planes.

Also, Travis recently addressed that the show isn't spelled with a "c", because then it would be pronounced "ska-manners", and I am looking forward to how very wrong he will have to admit being. Maybe on a Mea Culpa/Admitting Your Mistakes episode.

Shmanners is a podcast that I will probably never even give a try because I can't think of a more boring subject to speak on. It has about the same appeal to me as "Brian and Lindsay Will Totally Eat That", if anybody even remembers that whole thing.

Travis also doesn't strike me as somebody who can carry a show. Maybe he takes a back seat to Teresa and it still works, but his best at quick bits and one-liners. When you let him go on to long, we get things like Mango.

Travis is actually my favorite mcelroy brother (as much as I can have a favorite) during MBMBAM, because he comes up with consistently off the wall funny poo poo and one-liners, but yeah, I'm not sure if that's strong enough on its own without two other really good cohosts.

Mango was made amazing with the help of the other brothers. On it's own, the Mango thing was one of the weirdest jumping-off points I've heard put forward on the show. Travis' best contribution to it after the fact was when Justin said "It's like you've discovered a new color between red and orange" and Travis, without missing a beat, says "It's called Mango".

It's not the Travis isn't funny. He's honestly the quickest of the brothers, and has been very quietly the quickest since the beginning. His strength comes from the quickness, though, and he basically excels at one-liners and short premises. Giving him too much room to flesh things out gives you the Mango ramblings, and the Magnus backstory.

It's probably mainly this, yea. The whole 'haha tacos right, because his name is 'takko'' thing was funny but it was 100% a 'hahaha...I actually have no idea what I'm doing with this character but here's a funny thing I thought that's related to him!' that a lot of new roleplayers do. It's fine, I think the taco goofs are funny, but yea as everyone got more into things and more character focused now you can make goofs on that and they feel more organic and fitting.

Also it's been replaced with Takko just bullying a sweet baby detective for no reason, and that's a far superior goof.

A spoiler for a few episodes in but the best moment in the podcast is when they burn both of their vetos for season 1 when one of them tries to veto a legendarily bad episode and the other guy vetoes the veto so they don't get to skip any eps from the worst season.

That one was weird because I feel like there wasn't really a lot they could definitely say etiquette-wise other than "don't ever ask if someone is pregnant" and "don't ever ask to touch a stranger's stomach". Normally they do a good mix of the history of the subject and then answering questions. The history of maternity wear was sort of out of left field and felt like they just really needed to fill time.

I will second Travis's interview with Alison Rosen, though, that was really interesting to listen to and it made me wish that Justin and Griffin would also be on her show. He also was on Kate Leth's podcast recently (she's a comic book artist who's super into mbmbam) and it was a really good interview.
